no way axolotls do not get any bigger than a foot and a foot-long axie would be a monstrous one. most tank raised ones are around the 6-9 inch mark.

i think i may buy using my mom's credit card. she said it was ok. man i think i'm becoming obsessed with animals lol i mean i have so many pets, i think i wanna work at petsmart for a little while. they could use the help. i was thinkin bout wal-mart, but you can't live off of that pay for long, but it'd be for the fish though. they need to be properly looked after. i may try and breed axolotl and sell the juveniles to my petsmart since it's a pretty good store. it'd help boost the population round here.
First question.. whats with the replyies that are just bump? I mean im kinda new to forums... this one i need explained.... also I wanna use sand in my Axolotl aquarium is that ok ? also can you clean sand ive never used it in a tank before ?
well i've seen others do that to keep their threads alive. i think playsand might have harmful chemicals or somn in it. you could try aquarium sand, altough you may have to order it, and in a large amount. the deal is good, i forgot how much you would have to order tho. axolotls will be ok with sand in their tanks, just smaller gravel bothers them more.
well i have my tank set up... it has sand, river stones, a claypot for hiding, and a fe silk plants.. Its not elabrate. but it works, the only thing is getting it down below 68 degrees. its tough..., I think im going to have to put an air conditioner in the same room it is in
I've got three of the little critters in a 3 ft planted tank. I purchased some river sand from the local hardware store. It seems to have done the trick. Although, i did rinse it a lot before putting it anywhere near anything alive.
I think the problem with Gravel is that it's too big for them to pass through their digestive system so it tends to cause all sorts of nasty complications if the swallow it. Sand seems to work. They don't eat a lot of it and they seem to pass what they do eat quite happily out the other end. The other option is to go for substrate that's too big for them to swallow, but it makes for a really messy tank.
What i'd like to know is how to get them as big as possible. My dream pet would be a Japanese Salamander or a Hellbender muahaha. (http://www.giant-salamander.com/UploadFiles/2006112113343984.jpg)
