if it has a nervous system, it will feel pain. if it has nerves running throughout its body, it will feel pain.
that is the whole reason for the nervous system. to send and recieve electrical impulses. every time a nerve is activated it sends an impulse to the brain. that is how you feel and recieve pain. every time a negative impulse goes to the brain it is percieved as pain, and the organism knows to move to stop it. why do you think an oscar will move when it gets nipped by a convict?
U must be very cleaver and very rich:huh:

scratcher, FISH DO FEEL PAIN. DERRRR! lol

Liquid nitrogen: instant ice cube. The problem is getting some.

I just had to euthanize a cardinal that had its tail bit off and was floating helplessly around the tank. I used denatured alcohol (ethanol with a little bit of methanol mixed in to make it poisonous). It was quick but not instantaneous; it twitched a couple of times. It did quickly get a dehydrated look after that, though.

Let's stick to practical methodology. I'm sure detonating a 10kt nuclear weapon directly under the tank would be very painless, but most of us simply don't have acess. Euthanizing a large fish with a 12 gauge to the brain would also be very quick, but disturbs the neighbors.

Go test clove oil on yourself. Apply it first to gums, then to mucos membranes. You'll notice a slight burning, replaced very quickly by numbness. We're talking about how to put our beloved pets out of misery as gently and as quickly as possible. Numb descent into sleep is'nt bad.

I think you've just suggested the quickest and most humane way yet.

That's awesome!! I actually work with liquid nitrogen, used for freezing bovine sperm for use in artificial insemination. Now I know exactly how to euthanize my fish if it proves necessary. Thanks guys!

The best way to is to let nature run it's course....very rarely does a sick fish that doesn't respond to medication last very long anyways, they usually die shortly thereafter, they are fragile creatures... SO what's the use??

In the wild, a sick fish doesn't have some huge clove oil Dr. Kovorkian Fish to end him quickly, he either dies slowly or gets eaten alive by a predator...somehow I doubt the latter is exactly painless.

I say let nature run it's course.

just because they feel pain does not mean they are gonig to die. if every time a fish felt pain they died, nobody would be able to keep fish because they would all be dead before they got to the stores. in fact, there would probably be almost no fish anywhere, especially cichlids and other terretorial fish because they fight all of the time.
SORRY mate i was just fishing last night for fun:dance2: And u took the bait it waz fun though:devil: LOL SRY scracher
