Betta Help...EMERGENCY

My Betta "Phred" has also had a swollen belly (worse than yours) for the last 4 months.

Tried fasting, the pea and Maracyn 2 treatment-all no-go.

He still swims all around good, comes to the top of the tank to greet me when the lid comes open (was picking the small snails out of his tank to give to "Jack" the JD tonight and he was all around my fingers)

I'm at a quandry; he seems to be active still and in no distress, but he's out of the norm for a Betta. Don't know wether to euthanise him or what....

Keep us posted; I've been following this thread to maybe get some ideas!

oh my gosh, that picture is shocking. it looks like his belly is just a baloon of gas. dogs can get gastroenteritic bloat where their stomach twists and no gas or food can pass, leading to a distended stomach and death. i don't know if fish can get it, but that's what your fish looks like.

i'm sorry i can't be of more help. that poor betta looks really bad...

Phred is in the same state; been this way for at least 3 months....

Here's a pic-will try and get a better one later!

update today.....it appears like his scales on the swollen belly are starting to flake off. There is a patch of raw flesh now showing.

I am past a simple worry, and onto wondering if the humane thing is to put him out of his assumed missery.

Other than aardvark1 nobody has seen this type of problem?

I have never seen anything that bad in a betta. Did you try the pea thing? and fasting? You said it was still eating but they can go over a week without food with no ill effects. Also, epsom salts added to the water can be a remidy for certain things. You may want to search the forrums for an idead of how to use them, as its not something I am familier with.

More pics of "Phred":

I'm also wondering if it's time for euthenization...

Got a fatty too!

If it helps any, I've got a fatty too! I couldn't find anything on the web that looked like mine till I saw yours! PLAH831 was nice and pointed me to yours. My fish doesn't seem sick at all either.
Let's see if there's anything we're doing that is the same. Mine is in a approx 1 1/2 gal vase. No other live plants or fish in the vase. I had a lily plant in the vase until recently. I use tap well water (Nebraska). The only thing I use in the water is stress coat (aquarium water conditioner) - about 4 drops. I feed it wardly (by hartz) betta premium food - ingredients:fish meal, groundwheat, shrimp meal.....(it goes on forever but that's probably the main stuff). It's little dark brown pellets. I tried peeled peas - he ignores it. I've tried flake food - spits it out. I think I overfed him before it all started but give him 3-4 pellets a day now. I've tried to fast him 2-5 days on multiple occassions trying to get him to eat the peas. He always acts hungry and I never see him poop. His stomach looks transparent to me almost like he's got a big air bubble.
Seriously, I feel better knowing I'm not the only one and both of our fish are still swimmin...
