I am sure that he isn't flaring when I am not looking because I watch him all the time. I am at college so I have a lot of free time on my hands. lol. Thanks for the answers I hope he get's settled in and flars soon.
Maybe your betta is a pacifist...a lover, not a fighter. When you got him, are you sure the label didn't say, "Siamese Lover Fish"? Peace, not war. :headbang2:
I was chatting with a breeder about this the other day. I thought it was odd that they were able to breed such remarkable colors and fin types into bettas, but they were still too aggressive to put two of them together.
She said that when show bettas are judged, they're also judged on their flaring (aggression) response. So breeding "mellow" bettas doesn't make sense for the serious breeders.
NONE of my bettas flare when i put a mirror in front of them. I have minibows, so maybe it's something with the shape of the tank so they can't see the mirror? It's the only thing I could come up with. LOL
However, if I put them next to each other, they flare like crazy!
