I'm going to upgrade my son's betta from a 1.5 gallon mini tank to a 6 gallon Eclipse. (Speed {Racer} will be much happier that way. That will leave the 1.5 gallon open for something else..... It has a little tetra wisper filter that came with it, but there is no heater. I thought maybe I'd try it in my office so here are my questions/concerns for this venture:

1. What kind of stock could handle a 3 day weekend? I'm only at work M-Th.
2. Are there heaters that will work on this little 1.5 acrylic tank?

If there are heaters that will work, I'm happy to add one, but even with a heater, it seems too small for the betta. Maybe snails, shrimp or some mini fish? I could put some low-light plants in it.

Also, I'd love suggestions for betta friends in the new 6 gallon It will have low light plants as well.

I think it would be neat to turn it into a little planted shrimp tank!! I know there are people around here who can suggest a heater for you, I have no clue.
As for the 6g with the betta how about adding a trio of pygmy cories? Generally cories and bettas get along well and leave each other alone. You could try a snail or two but it's been my experience that bettas think that the snails feeler thingies are worms.......

I second the cherry shrimp idea.

If your office stays in the 70's during the weekend, they should be fine.

I don't know much about endlers, but I've seen 1-2 endlers recommended for small tank.

Just about any adult fish will survive days without food (I never feed mine unless I'm gone for more than 10 days -- better a fast than a tank full of rotting food when I'm out of town).

I third the shrimp idea. If you ever get too many shrimp, you can feed them to your betta! (Or give them to a LFS, your choice.)

Couple of cherries or amanos. No fish other than a betta should be in less than a 5g.
