Koi are carp from Asia, that is all. I think they are one of the oldest kept fish species. They do breed them for certain color patterns. Some patterns are hard to get and can get pretty costly to find one.

Agreed. A subspecies breed for color. Thankfully not as ugly as regular carp.

Yeah now that I think about it my uncles best friends, mothers, neice lost both her legs to a giant snapper when she was swimming in her pond! :joke: I like your movie idea graphic dr you have quite the imagination. :laugh:

Does anyone know if they are the oldest kept fish? I think it was either Koi or Betta's

Yes the emperor of China in the Xia dynasty during 2000 BC kept koi, but the disgruntled populace sent in ninjas with snapping turtles to ruin his koi pond (and I bet you thought ninja turtles were a fairly new idea).
