bio spira discontinued

Bio-Spira was discontinued. Check the Marineland website, they pulled all information about it is because they no longer sell it. They repackaged it as Tetra Safe Start. The information about that product can be found here:

I saw it Petsmart weeks ago...sounds like a scam to me.
It is not refridgerated. They say in the word document on that link that it has a shelf life of a year. LOL!
Interesting because they claim to have discovered the effects of the bacteria that was discovered, isolated, cultured and patened by Timothy A. Hovanec, Ph.D. from Marineland. It is his belief that high temperatures and a long shelf can cause this bacteria to become less functional. I think that I'll trust him.

So I am trying to get thru all the BS and figure out if there is a product out there that I can buy to get fish into my tank. I feel like this is the same ordeal I went thru buying a laser jammer, just so much misinformation and lies. Anyways if I cant get birospira anymore what can I get?
Thanks for helping a noob.

You can get some seeded filter media from an established tank and will probably be more reliable and cheaper than anything you can buy off the shelf.

yea I read that, but the tank I set up last night is now empty and the old filter was rinsed and sat out dry for a day so Im not sure it has anything on it. The tank (50gal) only had one fish so not sure. I didnt take any of the rocks from it and it is just a 30-60gal walmart pump.

The person who discovered, patented, and created Bio-Spira has come out with a new product. More information about the new product can be found at the website below.
