Rams like the same level as bottom dwellers. I have a pleco in my planted tank with my ram and every time the pleco comes out the rams picks on him. I"m sure if the tank is larger >20g bottom dwellers would be fine. but in a smaller tank there isnt' enough bottom teritory for everyone to be happy.
a 20g tall is a good size for a pair of rams. You could probably add a BN pleco(i have my pair in a 15g and i have a pleco, but i dont' see him much). I wouldn't add any cories though. They are a bit too "busy" and would take up too much of the rams room.

I had a pair of rams with a CAE and three small cories, everyone got along just fine. But this was I guess a larger tank than yours.
If you are getting a 20 gallon tall, you don't want too many fish that swim low, since space for them will be limited. And I agree with Valerie here, the rams may get stand offish to your other bottom dwelling fish.
