blue rams

I second the planted tank idea for ideal. Lots of fakes work too. :-) Soft water, low PH, temp around 80, good food. I don't like to see them in a tank with other bottom dwellers.

why don't you like to see them in a tank with other bottom dwellers?

just currious

so your saying no plecos or cories then? interesting since these would be fish they would encounter in the wild.

Rams like the same level as bottom dwellers. I have a pleco in my planted tank with my ram and every time the pleco comes out the rams picks on him. I"m sure if the tank is larger >20g bottom dwellers would be fine. but in a smaller tank there isnt' enough bottom teritory for everyone to be happy.

I have an empty 20g tall. that I'm looking to stock.

a 20g tall is a good size for a pair of rams. You could probably add a BN pleco(i have my pair in a 15g and i have a pleco, but i dont' see him much). I wouldn't add any cories though. They are a bit too "busy" and would take up too much of the rams room.

Stick with a dwarf pleco or maybe soem shrimp(i have these in my ram tank to)

I had a pair of rams with a CAE and three small cories, everyone got along just fine. But this was I guess a larger tank than yours.

If you are getting a 20 gallon tall, you don't want too many fish that swim low, since space for them will be limited. And I agree with Valerie here, the rams may get stand offish to your other bottom dwelling fish.
