Blue's 80 Gallon Mbuna Tank

Great!

Well whatever he may be I hope he grows up to be a pretty as his Daddy!

Update time!

I love working on this tank and seeing it evolve as time goes on. I know I have way too many species in the tank and I've been waiting to see which ones won't work out. So far things have been pretty good.

About a month ago I got a free male blue socolofi and 4 large mainganos. I added them to my group with some new female msobos. The socolofi took over the tank and brutally beat everyone into a corner. I moved around the decore and it got worse. I gave him a couple more week but I eventually got sick of seeing all my fish trying to hide in the huge plant I got. He was sadly removed this week and went on his merry way to the lfs. While I was at it I thinned out the stock a bit. I removed the small white socolofis because they simply were not thriving at all. They haven't been growing and just look sickly. I also removed my electric blue hap for the same reason. He looked stunted and just not healthy. I also removed a yellow lab I picked up a while ago because he just didn't belong in there. Finally I took out one of the male white tail acei since 3 males seemed like too many.

After I removed all the fish I needed to and re set up the tank I sat back as my fish magically came out of the corner and started swimming around. My mainganos are gorgeous and it so nice not to see them huddled in the corner. The socolofi hated them the most of all. While watching the tank I noticed that I think my "female msobos" are actually Ps saulosi. That's what I get for trying to pick out msobos from a mixed tank(my lfs is horrible for unlabeled mixed tanks). For now they are minding their manners and are place holders for when I get a hold of some REAL msobos.

So current stock:
7 mainganos(no idea on gender)
5 Met. msobos(2m3f)
2 Ps socolofi albino(ones I got from Lady G, they are very healthy and don't bother anyone)(1m1f)
3 White tail acei(2m1f)
2 yellow tail acei(1m1f)
3 Saulosi(my mix ups)(3f)
3 Cynotilapia afra chewere(1m2juv)
1m Ps enlongatus chewere
1m Tropheus duboisi
And the catfish and red tail shark.

Ug when I type it out it looks like a disaster area. Things are working for now and like I said the species thinning will come whenever I start seeing problems. I think it's going to be the acei that will be cut since they get so big. Which saddens me. I'm not even sure if it will help since acei don't form territories like other mbuna.

Anyway my fish would not sit still for pictures and all my full tank pictures came out blurry so here's a video! This is only a day after the socolofi was removed so they are still staying close to the plant on the left side. They are getting more comfortable though.

That's a beautiful tank.

Everything is looking great, Blue! And hey, I love that T. duboisi.

Wow haven't updated in a while!

Well things have been going well in the 80 Bow.

Sadly I have to remove my mainganos. They have become pretty mean and were causing most of my other fish to color down. I knew it was a risk dealing with anything from the melanochromis genus. So I have removed 1 species group! They all went to a good home. To replace them I have decided to add more acei. I've had a lot of people in my area tell me they get too big, but they are one of my favorites. We'll see how it goes. I'm picking up the new acei tomorrow so hopefully I'll have pictures.

My tank looks so empty now! Last night I removed 9 fish which includes the pair of white tail acei. They are going back to their original home with Lady G.

New stock list is still kind of a disaster but it's working for now. I keep a close eye on this tank and the first sign of troulbe the fish are removed (as with my mainganos).

4 Met. msobos(1m3f)
2 Ps socolofi albino (1m1f
3 Red zebras (1 is albino) (3f)
1m Met. Membe Deep(This was my fault I thought they were the same as msobos. Turns out it's not the case. Pretty fish though)
2 yellow tail acei(1m1f)(Soon adding 6 juvs)
3 Saulosi(1m2f)I've come to love these fish so I added some juvs. The make hybrids like crazy which my synos enjoy. :)
3 Cynotilapia afra chewere(1m2f)
1m Ps enlongatus chewere
1m Tropheus duboisi
And the petricola and red tail shark.
