Some pictures of my giant bristleworm. This guy is fascinating! He came out tonight after the lights were out. Sorry the pictures are a bit blurry. The lights were out.
I have had some big ones in my day as well.. creepy looking but I still think they are good to have for the most part. Some fish that like to sleep in cracks in rocks at night (some wrasses) are susceptible to getting bit by them though so they are not great for every tank. The ones I had became fearless over time and would be out during the day and go after food I put in the tank for the fish.
Creepy or interesting? I still attribute the loss of my Firefish to bristleworms... they learn that nothing can hurt them and then they all come out when the food goes in and it is sooo creepy... Just don't get anything that likes cracks as a sleeping spot...
Been picking up some frags this weekend. I ended up with more than I thought I would but it's nice to have some different colors in the tank!
So far I have a frag with 2 different kinds of zoas, (green bay packers and eagle eyes I think) I don't really know the difference between eagle eyes and watermelons though.
I also got another combo frag of green button polyps and a small blue mushroom. The blue mushroom is almost iridescent under my lights! Sadly the mushroom came detached on the way home and has been the biggest pain trying to attach it to a new rock! I've tried everything but it's still wobbly on the rock. I have on on the sand and it's not happy. From what I understand these guys are hardy so hopefully it isn't stressed too much.
Today I picked up some blue snowflake polyps(they are gorgeous) and the lady threw in a free piece of hammer coral. The hammer is beautiful with green stems and purple tips. I found the perfect place for it in my rock. It's not thrilled but opened up a little today. I hope my tank is ready for a LPS. The blue snowflakes are on an ugly coral frag that sticks out so badly in my tank. I can't wait till they grow over it.
Tomorrow I'm trading a pump I'm not using for a frag of Duncan coral. These guys sound cool and I have the perfect spot picked out for him!
A couple of my hermit crabs have been MIA the last few days. I'm afraid I might have crushed them when moving around rocks I sure hope not.
No pictures tonight. I have the lights out to help the new corals adjust.
A hammer frag is nice bonus!. Put the shroom in low flow so it can reattach itself. You'll love the duncan. Nice color and movement and a fairly peaceful coral to its neighbors. Mine eats a lot of mysis.
I got bored so I looked at the tank with a flash light. I found my bristle worm, a smaller bristle worm, a peanut worm, various snails and a white serpent starfish I had no idea I had. I also saw a critter that caused me to race to Google in a panic to discover it was a harmless Chiton. I also found one of my missing hermits alive and well (the white one). Still no sign of my scarlet and one of my blue legs .
