Button Quail!

Here's a pic for fun:

Day old chicks, the little black one is the runt, the other one was one of the bigger ones (it's hard to pick one out of 30).

They really aren't time consuming. The only problem is that they aren't exactly the kind of pet that you can cuddle and drag around. They're pretty flighty, but other than that, they're pretty neat pets. I still have to divide my adults up, but unfortunately, I'm going to have one more male than hen, if I'm correct in sexing my two whites, so I need to figure something out there.

Well, so the title says button quail, but I'll add pics of other birds too.

Here's my love dove, my favorite girly. She looks to be real impressed, huh?

I couldn't get a good picture here, but HAD to get something. The two chickies are sleeping with the baby button (sole survivor) nuzzled on their necks. And, yes, I realise that the waterer is full of bedding, that's why they've since been switched to a cleaner water bottle.

And my cocky little cochin chick

I'm hoping to goodness that this is a hen, if I end up keeping a roo, it will have to be a frizzle roo, and this isn't a frizzled cochin. :/

so how are all the birds now?
did that cochin chick turn out to be a hen?
:D

No picture updates, because my batteries are dead and I can't find any new ones (thought I had like half of one of those huge packs). BUT... The cochin is a pullet! Yay! The silkie is still unknown (they're very hard to sex apparantly). The little silkie/cochin mix is looking like a pullet as well. I'm also getting showgirl eggs here shortly (should be here tomorrow) and hoping to keep a white showgirl and a partridge showgirl.

Button quail are doing well also. I have a white roo over an ivory red breast hen and she started laying. I have a community of like 10 buttons that should start laying soon. Plus I have like 17 young that are growing up now. I have a pie darth vader chick in that group, and a few that have white fuzzies on their wings (not actual feathers, but barely noticable fuzz), plus five more whites, wilds, red breasts, etc. I'm going to breed the pie either to a white or one of the ones with white fuzzies on them. Hopefully I'll produce more pies from that.

The coturnix are laying pretty well now. Plus, I have a dozen that are like 3-4 weeks old now, 6 males and 6 females. Then a few A&M's in the brooder. The A&M's don't seem to be quite as hardy as the browns though. :/

I'm soon going to start shipping live birds too! I already have an order for three or six pairs (can't remember exact number) to be shipped to VA. Should be interesting!
