Button Quail!

The button quails are super cute :) and what do you mean ibizans don't live long? 12-14 years is pretty average for a large breed dog. Plus they're awesome!

Phanny's line is spanish bred. the most i've see that line live is 11-12 years. they are used for hunting and when they cant hunt anymore, well.... they go out for one last hunt.... but like i said another ten years or so and Phantom's four so i gave him his 14 year grace period. ;) however this hound is soooo acident prone its not funny. nice dog but he always finds new ways of hurting himself. once he almost severed his toe off when he was a puppy. then a year later sliced up his pad on the same leg out side treeing birds. then we're at a show and leaving the class ring he gets attacked by some hairy dogs and bit on the chest shoulder area. now hes at my grand mothers treeing squirles, birds, and chasing goffers. he jumps over things rund into things and always comes into the house with a new cut or scrape. i'd have to bubble wrap him in order to keep him safe.

I find the same thing a bit with my weim. Because her coat is so short, it really offers very little in terms of protection. So she'll wipe out running, and end up with road rash on her chest, scrapes from running through the bush, and chewed up ears from playing with her overly enthusiastic lab friend. She's also a bit accident prone, crashed her way through a glass coffee table(re'q quite a few stiches), and has run full on into a few fences! But she's a lovely snuggly dog. Even if I feel ridiculous when she has to wear a coat in the winter.

Back to the buttons, I've been checking out other pics on the web. They are so incredibly cute. It's too bad that they don't seem to live that long!

Betta,
Is the coturnix the Japanese quail? I looked at some on the weekend and am interested in raising them.
Yup. You can get several varieties, including jumbos, which get up to a pound live weight. My personal favorites are the tuxedo and the golden, but they also have tibetans, golden ranges, Texas A&M (white bird, with white meat, lol), as well as others and of course the regular brown.
The coturnix are supposed to be messy birds. My plan with them is to use sawdust, and use a kitty litter sifter to sift their bedding 1-2 times per day, depending on just how bad they are. You also need to use special feeders (storebought or make one) to keep them out of their food dishes, or they'll dust bathe and fling food everywhere.

mine loved to dust bathe. they were fun to watch and they would coo to eachother too. I had a seperate feeder for them though it was my chick feeder but it worked by keeping the out of the good food. i had the grey and red ones i dont remember what they were called but they weren't messy birds.

put some hay in their cage and see what they do. mine made tunels and burrows in the dry grass

Time for some update pics...

Annnd, I'll have to get pics of the whites. I have tons of pics of everyone else because I've been posting pics galore trying to figure out the colors. The one that is all splotchy is some type of cinnamon male, the really dark one is a red breasted male (he'll start to turn blue later!), and the really light grey one is either an ivory red breasted or silver red breasted, and I'm thinking it's a hen (quite possibly my only hen out of the bunch!). The whites will have to wait until they get older to determine gender, but I'm thinking that at least one of them is a male. I've been overrun with males. :/ I won't be getting rid of my males, because the two little males have been my favorite since I got them, but if the white ones are males, they'll probably be going. The whites still haven't tamed down, and hubby is tired of chasing birds around for me every time I open the cage, lol.

they are so cute.
