Can anyone identify this?

Thanks guys. That was what the guy at the LFS told me also. It just seems too complex to be an algae (growth from a single point; kinda trunk-like), but I could be wrong.

It looks similar to some red macro algae I had growing on some rock in my very first tank. I don't know the name but it didn't last long after I put in an urchin!!!!!!

There has been a blue tuxedo urchin in the aquarium for about a month, hasn't bothered with it in the least.

It might bea species thing - mine was a long spined urchin and totally wiped my whole tank of algae - including the good stuff!!!

so is macro algea good or bad? if it is bad how do u get rid of it?, that way if i get any i wont have to ask, i will just know :), (thanks to all of you),
thanks,
Shane
