I would say its just a red macro algae too...

It looks similar to some red macro algae I had growing on some rock in my very first tank. I don't know the name but it didn't last long after I put in an urchin!!!!!!

Thanks guys. That was what the guy at the LFS told me also. It just seems too complex to be an algae (growth from a single point; kinda trunk-like), but I could be wrong.

There has been a blue tuxedo urchin in the aquarium for about a month, hasn't bothered with it in the least.

It might bea species thing - mine was a long spined urchin and totally wiped my whole tank of algae - including the good stuff!!!

Red algae can be very complex. True brown algae even more so.

so is macro algea good or bad? if it is bad how do u get rid of it?, that way if i get any i wont have to ask, i will just know , (thanks to all of you),

It is good, it will outcompete your nuisance algaes for nutrients. You do have a few issues to watch for with some though one of them being a tendacy to go sexual.
