Can someone ID this American Cichlid for me?

I think I could manage something that size...my living area will be quite appealing to the neighbours' cats I'm sure!
Ohhh...that pic doesn't do him justice at ALL...I wish I could capture, but the flora-glo purple w/ the red/brown flourite, background or whatever else it is, severely skews the colouring on the lighter fish. I wish had realised. I would made sure I took a good shot of him in the other tank--his colours were much more brilliant against the white substrate.
But, thank you! He's definitely one of my fancies!
I hope you have some luck giving away some of your fish! I agree with Krytan, a 90G would be fine for the 7 fish you'd like to keep, though if you could go bigger to like 125G that would of course be even better.
Oh, and if you take pics with the flash off, the lights low in the room, but the tank light on, you'll get a better representation of the fishes colors than if you use the flash.

wow i think that is still too many fish. These are all very territorial fish and will not tolerate other fish in there space. i would probably say a 90G would be ok for the FM, convicts and flowerhorn if you want to keep it that bad.
As for the tinfoils please find them a new home they need a lot more room than you can provide. Also please dont put your RTS in with the africans as they are also very aggressive
i have no first hand knowledge of any of the huge chain stores like petco, petsmart but from what ive heard mis-information is common. therefore try and do as much research online first before buying any more fish.
please dont think i am getting at you i would just like to see these fish have a decent chance of survival.

Yeah, you can see the rim of the lens reflecting back in some of my pics...
I have actually tried that...and I don't know, they come out bad! My camera is kind of hard to figure out. It has manual settings, but the automatic adjustmest just override them... If I turn the flash off, it lowers the shutter speed , and then I get blurry whirs--these guys are always on the move.

I'm working the fish issue today. Question though: should I "quick" cycle and take a chance with water, or will they be okay in there a week or two until I get a new set up in proper condition?
EVERYONE in this tank except for the Midas came from the African tank--and that was going okay. It doesn't look very big because it's the salt-style, vat, whatever, but I've "lost" fish in there for days (in the rocks, plants etc) and thought they were gone for good. The Kenyi (male) and 1 of the Ahlis (the sickest one--actually) are the only two I really see going at it. They bite each others' mouths--the oddest looking thing because they're stuck. It's like the fish version of playing chicken.
The only other aggressive (from what I watch) guy in the tank is the male auratus, but I think he's all fluff and no bite...
I just thought mabye he'd (RTS) be better off back in there since his fins are obviously a target for someone. One of the GTs has a big chunk missing from his dorsal fin too...UGHH this is bad....okay...please let me know if (and how to) quick cycle, so I can move some of these guys ASAP. Thanks... Oh, and PetSmart will NOT take em' back past 14 days, and then if they're sick of dead.

Move some of your old filter media from one of your other tanks to the new filter on the new tank. Make sure you test your water everyday for a few weeks to be sure everything is as it is supposed to be.
Once you have a established tank there is no need to cycle new tanks, just move your bacteria colony's from filter to filter.

I'm a specialist at a big box store and I play 20 questions when people buy their fish or have problems. I'm not on commission so I try and do my best at finding the best home for the fish and knowing what I am selling. I can't say that for everyone that I work with. If a customer comes in and asked about a fish that I'm not sure of I educate myself by researching the web for them so that the next time they come in I have answers. I also have a friend that owns a mom and pop store and I love the little guys. On my days off I check out other lfs in the area. I think as far as BB goes Petco is hit or miss and IMO I haven't had any luck with Petsmart in my area.
As far as getting rid of the fish check the yellow pages or the Internet to see if you can find any pet shops. That's what we do. If you can't find anyone to take them I'm sure someone here will or check out Aqua bid. Good Luck.

This is what I'm doing: The picts, barbs, RTS are still in the 55g. I think the Barbs will be okay in there for a little while. The measures I gave, btw, were tip-to-tip, from what I've been reading I guess tails should not be counted in a measure for adults... I don't plan on keeping them there...but for now. I moved the FH to one 30g until he outgrows it (I'm hoping he's an odd cross and won't get so BIG! One can hope can't they?) the 4 Midas to another 30g temporarily until I figure out what to do with them--I actually do know a guy who's sort of into "monster" fish and I'll be talking to him later this afternoon anyway so...maybe he'll take them, and the rest (FM, 2 Cons, 2 GTs, and the JD) will go in the 75 gal (Pet Smart * sigh * ) as soon as the dirt settles (flourite--RINSED it this time too but it's STILL messy stuff).
If that guy doesn't want the Midas--I was sort of thinking about making a real fuss at PetSmart about the mis-represenation/advertising etc... and see if I can get anywere that way. If NOT, then I guess I'm going to have list them. How the heck DO you ship live fish anyway?
