CFL lights on a 180 - How many ????

dundadundun - you raise very solid Points! Thank you

why not reduce the number to two or three mogul bases and get 125 watt cfls?
a million little light bulbs will be a pain to maintain and set up

I am not sure what you are talking about? Got a link?

no the higher the k rating the less penetration it actually has.
I did not know this - Thank you

you can do any plants you want. Metal Halides!
I just sold one - I dont want to mess with MH's, But thx

you are very welcomed arkangel.

another note: i agree that the less fixtures are less to maintain and less to worry about but i have yet to see any cfls in a decent spectrum over 27 watts. there are some that are sold at hydroponics shops but i am skeptical. plus they are commonly dual spectrum lights from what i've come across.

I still want to know what

mogul bases 125 watt cfls Are?

YES, I want to use the Spiral bulbs. Well if I use the 26 watt bulbs and go with 20 of them that would put me at 520 Watts of light. That would be close to 3 watts per gallon BUT the question is - WILL it penetrate to the bottom? I just only want to do this Once if that's Possible. I may set it up for 40 bulbs and just use lower wattage bulbs at first to see how well it works. I can always swap them out for other bulbs if needed - OR just set it up for 40 - only use 20 bulbs and add them if needed a little at a time till I get the right amount of light?

I'd do 4 x 96 W PC lights.
6700-10,000K etc.

The screw in idea is not that practical(wiring 40 bulbs????), it'll work, but you will use up lots of space, have wires everywhere, unless you wire them together, a dozen cords:)

Seems like a PITA, unless you really like wiring hell.
Like doing multi light bulbs as hobby etc.........

I use 4 x 96W on my 180:

2.1 w/gal.
The light is also 12 inch above the water.
PAR light meter says 60 micromols, plenty to grow HC, Gloss anything your heart desires. Tonia, HC, any red plant etc

If you focus on CO2 good, you require less light also(more resources for gather light than spending it trying to nab CO2).

More light = more work, so focus on using the safe lower amount. More is not better.

Well, the new AC update took it off, search "KNO3 as sole source of K+".
It should come up with a justification for it based on ratios.

Well I was gona fix them inside the hood and Wiring is easy - that's what I do for a living (a part of it anyway) & there was gona be 1 power cord. SO lots of folks are saying go with 4 96W pc Lights. Could I bother anyone to post a link that will show me what you are all talking about (PC light link). COST was gona be cheap on the CFL (under $100 or so) - what would 4 96W PC light's cost? Thanks Arkangel77

PS - Plaint your tank is incredible

umm would like 3 or so of these work?
