My easy chair is right next to the left side of the "wall"; "Jack" the JD likes to swim to that side of the tank and watch me when I'm watching the tube or reading. My sofa is on the opposite wall; where I sit and comtemplate the fishies at night before bed-time.
Nothing on the bottom-tanks directly on the carpet. Shelf is a 3/4" MDF shelving board from Lowes.
Holding up good so far (famous last words...) This Sunday when I do the PWC, going to move the two 29's more to the center so the tanks are more centered over the cinder blocks.
Purely a CYA move; support the load a tad better.
Note: just re-read what I'd typed last night on the post with pic; shelf is 6 foot long; too late to edit it now!
For painting cinder blocks, do I need the prime the surface? Also, does it matter if I use interior paint? (I assume it is 100% acrylic latex paint you are recommending)
Being a very pourus surface priming it w/ some type of 'cheap' paint might give you better coverage w/ your 'good' paint. Of course you could always just give it 2/3 coats of the 'good' stuff depending on your budget. Good Luck
That's great! Painting the designs really makes it! I was going to suggest using corner/sash blocks rather than the regular kind, but it looks like that's what you got. The flat ends look a lot nicer.
MDF or any of the particle boards are not waterproof. Even if they've got a melamine coating, if that gets scratched or water gets at the cut ends they start to turn to mush.
