Coler's stopping smoking thread

i quit about 2 months ago. I kinda just got bored with it to the point it annoyed me, so i stopped. Now, of course, I need a cigarette every second of the day, I even dream about lighting one up, but I dont bother. People smoking near me doesnt bug me either.

Good luck!
I won't lie, it's hard. At least it was for me. I started smoking when I was 13, and I've been trying to quit since I was 23. Now, I am 31, and if I make it to October, it will have been a year since I've had a cigarette.
What finally helped me kick the habit was getting into an exercise routine. I started jogging every morning, which made me feel healthier in general, and it gave me that added motivation when confronted with the urge to light up. I'd just think about how lousy I'd feel the next morning when I was jogging.
But, even though it was tough, I am so glad to be able to call myself an ex-smoker.

I don't consider myself a non-smoker or an ex-smoker. I consider myself normal once again.

I think we all have those dreams of smoking again as we quit and even years later. There are times still where I feel I want to light one up but... the big difference is I know there is no way that will ever happen again. I've been smoke free for nearly 15 years now.

Good luck Coler! You can do it. And congrats RB! (& all those who have quit!) :thumbsup! My husband quit 10 years ago and now can't even stand the smell anymore....but he is an obssesive person! :lipssealedsmilie:

I smoked for 7 years. I quit smoking one year and two weeks ago. It was easy for me because my girlfriend, who also smoked, quit on the same day so we had eachother as our own support group. Coler, we can/will be your support group for you if you ever need it.

After i quit smoking i realized all of the strange things i used to do just to have a smoke. Standing outside in the pouring rain, standing outside in a blizzard, showing up or sneaking out someplace 5 minutes early so i could smoke before/after, constant worrying i was going to run out of smokes, the desperation if i forgot my pack at home/ran out, the happiness i found when i was going to see a friend (because i forgot my pack and he/she smoked, not necessarily because i wanted to see them).

You will find that you will have a new way of doing everything. and then you will find that your new way is pretty darn good.

I have not had a desire to smoke since the day that i quit. But i will tell you that one of my smoking habits just has not gone away. Every day of the week i would leave my house and pat down my pockets and say in my head, "keys, wallet, smokes, lighter...good to go". Now after not smoking for a year i still leave the house and say "keys wallet smokes lighter...good to go"

good luck!

 You can do this! You have a whole support group behind you as well! Keep it up, each day it gets a little easier than the day before.

Does Quitting Smoking make you look like that Coler (your avatar). Dude stretch the face out. It looks like you walked in between to buildings that were to close to each other. LOL

Go Coler! Down with the Tyrannous Tobacco Industry and their Evil Plot To Destroy The World! Candy canes are awesome. I've never smoked, I just think candy canes are awesome. I also think they can help with the urge, because you are 'replacing' the cig with something. You could also try toothpicks. They have fewer calories.
