Complete Newbie needs a bit of help

I added another 2 plants to my aquariam just to make sure ammonia levels are counteracted.

I think tht's too much fish since you cycled using fish...your tank might not be able to handle such an increase in bioload...but I'm waiting for confirmation on this since I'm pretty new as well

Sh*t I hope not- My mum is the one who bought the platies home. I will stop for a couple of weeks and assess whats happening. Touch wood nothing drastic happens. Monitor Levels in Ammonia and Nitrite and PWC its going to start I guess.

Possibly too many fish for the moment, but worry not, all can be kept in check with testing and water changes if you are on the job and willing to put in the time. I wouldn't put any more though. It really would be best to let it settle a while.

You may get a cloudy bloom, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It means the bacterial population is increasing. It's still early days for the tank yet since you are starting from scratch...

My last 220lt took a couple of weeks to stabilize (more or less) and that was with media from other filters and all the substrate from a 2 footer... And it still has a ways to go.

No worries Tim. I am up for job. So will monitor the levels and see how we go. It will be interesting to see if the tank can handle that much bioload. Fingers cross. :bowing:

Ammonia is up to 0.25 Should I do a 25 percent water change??

I just completed a 40 percent water change. Lots of sediments floating up.
Sheeze didn't think it would happen this fast.

Ok Nitrite and Ammonia Stabilized at 0 again. That was close.

I think I may have learnt something. I think adding the Cardinal tetras did pretty much nothing to the tank. Ammonia didn't go up, neither the nitrites. Adding the Flying Fox's and Siamese Algae eaters, the Sucker did nothing either. I think to start a cycle I had to have added a somewhat bigger fish. The reason why I think this is- I just did a "Nitrates" test to find it at 0. Surely by adding the cardinal tetras almost 2 weeks ago should have started the cycle? Maybe Maybe not. Anyone have any opinions?
