CP terraium - Plants only

Heres my bog. not the greatest. Letting some of my plants in my terrarium grow a little more before I move them out. Its a 55 gallon pond liner with 1 Sarr. x catesbei.

Can you guess which are the new traps since I planted it?

Thats actually a nice looking one just a bit over planted though..Care to share any details on your soil mix.

That looks awesome, Paul! I'd also be interested to hear more details... soil mix, watering, etc! I'd love to do something like that here.

Well that is just one pot that I finally put in the ground a while ago. Its doing better than I expected. The old traps (ones that grew while in the terrarium) are on the ground.
For the soil mixture, I just used straight Sphagnum peat moss. Make sure its pure peat moss and not miracle gro because it has the fertilizers that will most likely kill your plants.

I should have mixed with pearl light for aeration but o well, its doing fine.
It is a PAIN to mix the peat moss with water. the peat moss likes to float/ not mix with water at all. but eventually after you do get it mixed, flatten it and then plant away. It will stay pretty wet for a while. As for water, I've been letting the rain do most of it. I do sometimes go out with a cup of water and pour it on the single plant when it looks a little dry.
The bog is also in full sun, so that helps a lot. When I do plant the rest of my carnies I'll try to get some real sphagnum to keep in the moisture.
In the future I plan on getting a 55 gallon barrel and collecting rain water from off of my roof. Haven't tracked down a barrel yet, that's the only thing that's slowing it down.

they haven't updated it since last year...

Awesome! Thanks, Paul. That's good stuff. I'm originally from NY and I remember it staying pretty humid there. Is that true of Jersey too?

Yup pretty much but it does range. Right now its about high 50s

Nice. The thing that makes me nervous about doing it here is the lack of humidity most of the summer. Our range here is from the single digits to high 80's on any given day. Maybe I'll have to try the sarr. and VFTs outside for a bit and see how they do. I can always bring them back in if it's detrimental.

I was actually thinking of doing a little test run myself using some the VFT they sell at home depot before I get some from C.C., which I am planning on going to the weekend after the fourth of july.

I got my VFTs at either Home Depot or Lowes. If they grow well for you, no need to get the standard form from CC. ;) I think I'm going to put my sarr. out tomorrow and see how it does. I found a spot with good early morning sun and bright indirect light the rest of the day. If I can find an appropriate dish, I might put the VFTs out too...

i think im going to put most of mine outside today, just to get a little sun
