CP terrarium thread, continued

Pappy-Dew!!!!!! How you been?

Dp- That sounds pretty crazy. How big is your mini bog going to be?

Or you can buy another rack and fill that up!
hehe... I'm planning on just that when I get into my new place. I was planning to buy another rack, put the two side by side and insulate them together. I've got some ideas on how to really make it efficient, but I have to think through it all first.

Incidentally, I thought I'd pass along a link I found for lighting and such. Seems to be pretty decent stuff, and the price is pretty good. http://www.liquidsun.bz/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=121_9

That actually brings up an idea I had a few days ago. These bogs I've been mucking around in have a very thick layer of clay just below the peat/mineral soil surface. I was thinking of adding a layer of clay to the bottom of my mini bog when I repot everything. The main advantage to this will be water retention. Even when clay is dry it contains about 20% water. This water only leaves once the clay has been fired. It'll make the pot a lot heavier, but thing of the benefits!
How deep are you putting the clay layer? That's a really interesting idea.

Hey all!

Holy crap Death Pony, those pics are awesome! That is probably the coolest internship imaginable...I'm jealous!

Unfortunately I've trimmed down my collection to just one tank's worth of plants. Just don't have the time for a ton of plants anymore...had to get rid of the fish as well :(

Hopefully I will have some time in the near future to snap some pics of what I have left.
Good to see you back around, Pappy! Glad to hear things are going well. Can't wait to see your pics.

PAPPY!!!!!!! It's been a while. It is a pretty awesome internship. Set a few hardwoods on fire today (small fires), cleaned the cement mixer for a new paint job, and fed the Nepenthes and Sarr seedling with osmocote. The "Red Dragon" is become a monster of a Nep! I actually found out what the dying orchids in the greenhouse are today, and they're awesome! We have several Stanhopea, Gongora, and Coryanthes.

Uploading new photos now.

The mini bog will be as big as it needs to be. Right now it's an 18" fiberglass pot, but I think I can go bigger. 4 Dionaea and one purp will quickly crowd it. The clay will be at the very bottom, about 2 inches thick at least. I'll probably go with cheap earthenware. It's the most absorbent clay body, and what is found in bogs.

N. "Red Dragon". This plant has been feasting on a ant colony. They attempted to build the new expansion on the peristome and lid. There were many casualties.

Great pictures! The reg dragon does look awesome.

It's a beast! I got a few good photos of the newly opened pitcher today.

Almost all of today was spent filling orders. Don't bulk order any Drosera intermedia, capillaris, or rotundifolia any time soon. We're running very low on those species. Hoever, we have a ton of filliformis.

Also saved a painted turtle from the road today. He was quite a character when I picked him up. Lots of struggling, grunting, and kicking. He was pretty though!

Well I just made a donation and Im probably going to be making an order soon. When do you guys normally ship?

Thanks Paul! We greatly appreciate the donations. We usually ship the same day if the order is placed during the week. I'll definitely be helping to process the order.

The purps are very drool worthy. Personally, I think the local population is one of the best looking. Good color variety, insane lids, and nice size. I might get one myself.

We're preparing for mosquito season in the greenhouse. Being an aquarist, I suggested placing a small population of Gambusia holbrooki in the water trays. Not only will they eat the mosquito larvae, but the fry will help feed the Utrics. Next time I'm in Newport News I'll be getting some from Animal Jungle. I have to go back anyways, pack up my apartment, and get some Flourish potassium, so it'll be a convenient purchase. Hopefully they don't add too much nitrogen to the water.
