Craigslist 40 Gallon Journal

Nothing has really happened in this tank build for a while! I've been so busy with school :( But, my classes end this week so hopefully I will have more time to work on it.

I was not sure about the above stocking list and I think I might change my stocking plans.

Original Stocking Plan 1:
1 Angel (Whatever the LFS has in stock thats a pure angel not some cross)
10-12 Von Rio Tetras (Since they are smaller tetras than bleeding hearts)
3-4 Platies (I'm hoping to find some with blue on them, but who knows if I can.)
1-2 Dwarf Cichlids (undecided)

^ But, as I'm looking at this, I'm not sure if I will be able to find any dwarf cichlids at a good price. The only ones my LFS carried were blue rams and they were $15 a piece. I'm also unsure if I want both von rio tetras and platies...

Stocking Plan 2:
2 Angels
10 Von Rio Tetras
4 Mollies

^ This plan has a good mix of color. Orange, red, yellow, white, and black

Stocking Plan 3:
2 Angels
10 Mollies/platies

^ This plan also has a good mix of color. Same as above

Opinions? I have such a hard time making decisions! :o

If you want brilliant color including blues, I'd go with a mixed school of guppies instead of the tetras.

I would except guppies don't get along well with angels :(

Yeah, they truly are beautiful! Thanks anyways! :)

You can keep guppies with angels. I have 3 male guppies with a female angel in a 55. No problems.

Well, I guess you can, but I'm not quite sure I'd want to risk it...do you have a really friendly angel?

What risk are you worried about?
As far as being friendly, single Angels will usually keep to themselves. They have a reputation of picking on smaller fish, but the fish are usually much smaller than guppies. Neons and such. I keep mine with Emperor Tetra,Harlequin Rasbora,Guppies, and Corydora.

Well, I guess that guppies are larger I'm just paranoid that my fish will end up getting eaten! Guppies are a good idea though :)

I suppose there is always the possibility of getting an overly aggressive Angel, they are cichlids after all. But for the most part,I don't think you would have a problem with some guppies.

On a side note. The only problem I have had with Angels is keeping them as pairs. I know the one I have is a female because she laid eggs. The other one I had with her also laid eggs. The 2 did not get along after that. I took one to the pet store, and now keep her as a single. I noticed your stocking plans, just wanted to give my experience with keeping pairs,FWIW.
