Cycle finished but nitrites through the roof

how long has your tank been cycling?

The tank has been cycling for about 11 weeks now if i am correct..

If your nitrite is effectivly .5 and stays that way, then, i would not be too overly concerned..Nitrite only starts to effect fish at about 33ppm and inverts at about 1.5ppm...What i would be concerned about is if you add a hardy fish and the nitite levels rise back up again and do not fall with the use of water changes.

If that is the case and it does rise high again, i would remove the fish straight away. Cant really think of much more that would cause elevated nitrites besides poor filtration or over stocking, and obviously its not overstocked. Adding the bacteria that you did before i dont think is the way forward as all it is doing is masking the issue at hand and the best way to lower nitrites is via the water changes that your doing.

Despite the elevated nitrites, i would class your tank as cycled...

ok, i have a little damsel in the tank now. Will keep a very close eye on the water. 2hrs so far he's happy..

Just an update. damsel is still happy and water test today shows even better nitrite results than yesterday, I think it's very close to changing to 0.00, when i do a 10% weekly change i think that will do the trick :)
