I was on my way home from a extreamly long and frustrating day, and I passed a Petsmart (one decently long ways from my home) so I figured i'd stop and use the old "Credit Card therapy" way to give myself a little cheer..
Went in, looking at heaters, foods, ya know the usual. Looked at the fish tanks and I saw a tiny little Blue Tang stuck to the intake, obviously sick.. With the biggest infection of ICK I've ever seen in my entire life.. YIKES..
So I waved down someone and informed them that they have a sick fish.. I continue on my wondering around looking at stuff, and I kept an eye on the tanks to see if someone took a look.. Nobody did. So I figured it just got lost, so I waved down the "fish manager" and pointed it out to him..
He told me "oh he's being medicated.." Which i thought was odd, since the lights were on, it didn't have that label "can't buy, i'm sick" they always have on there medicated tanks.. The lights were on and everything was normal. I also thought it was odd since the tanks are the typical shared water system and I know they usually don't sell fish that are medicated and (known to be)sick, so they can't sell ANY of the fish connected to this tank.
I asked him what are they using and he said some name ever heard of.. I asked him "Do they use that for Ick?" And the manager replied, oh he's not sick, he's just reacting to the antibiotic we put in for the cyno bacteria we had in the tank..
Ohh.. I unde....
Wait.. What???
The manger thought the fish was sick from the stuff to "treat" bad algae...
Whoa whoa whoaaaaaaaaaa...
I was like umm he looks like he's going to die.. The manager just shrugs, I then offer to adopt him and put him in my QT.. I'll even pay for him (25 bucks with my card /sigh) The manager said they can't sell sick fish and they'll just wait till he dies..
/twitch.. Ummmm.. (cue music/whistle from the "Good the Bad and the Ugly)
To make a long story extreamly short (because I resisting the urge to curse) I now have a free Very Very Sick Blue Tang in my QT.
I'm Using a specific gravity of around 1.010 method. Which BTW I had to get a refractometer on the way home.. But I had to eventually anyway, so meh. I didn't want to use Copper since the fish is prolly already stressed out to an epic degree, and weak from being handled by people I wouldn't trust with a potato gun..
Will he die? Odds are good.. Does he have at least a slim chance? I hope so.. If he lives great! Someone will get a nice fish for free in a few months(since I can't keep him for the long run.. Dang my apartment life with tank size limits!)
I'll let you know how it goes.. I think if he lives thru the next 48 hours he's got a chance..
/Sigh... I'll admit chewing out someone did make me feel better.. But now i'll be stressed out all night lookin after sick fishy
