Death to Smooch... err.. Petsmart!!

I think it really really depends on the store.. Sometimes (just sometimes) I'm sure a big chain store will get someone who really really loves fish, and know his stuff..

its tough to run a fish department with a bunch of kids who don't want to work and could care less about the pets... i'm in the midst of dealing with one said associate and i'll likely have to give one the boot before she injures any of my pets...

Well the little guy is still alive.. I can't tell if he looks better or the same.. But i'll take breathing at this point..

BUT... As i'm gazing into my community tank, what do I see, a single little white dot on top of one of my clowns... Oh. My. GOD... ! You gotta be kidding me..

How did THAT happen? The timing is extreamly odd, I start reviewing..

I washed my hands..
No water was shared betwen the QT and the Main Tank...
I didn't use anything from the main tank with QT except for the net..

Omg.... THE NET! I washed it, but I didn't boil it or rinse it in Alcohol..

And my QT is being used.. Crap crap crap crap... ok, not the end of the world.. breath man. breath.. lol

In the hopes that it's just a slight infection (other clown is 100% clean) I'm hoping I caught it early enough.. Going to try to use some of the more gentle methods such as garlic and the like.. And if the little dot isn't gone in 24 hours, off I go shopping for another 10 gallon setup.. I REALLY don't want to have to go defcon 4 yet on this.. And the clowns have always been extreamly healthy they may be able to fight this one off. I'd rather not stress the heck out of them..

So off to google to do research into treatment for ich on reef tanks, and I came accross

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/s...1818&perpage=25&highlight=ginger&pagenumber=1

Apparently someone tried using ginger in her Reef tank and it apparently worked (at least on a slight infection...) Anyone ever hear about this?

So basically I'll up the temp to shorten it's life cycle and and the garlic method, since lowering the SG will kill my invert's.. If i'm lucky (and my karma holds) the clown will kick this problem without me having to go nuts.. If I don't see it gone in 24 hours then i'll have to declare war.. :)

Good for you man. You see so much of that sort of thing that you begin to get accustomed to it. Hope everything works out.

I often see dead/dying fish at the petco up here... but in their defense, many of them arrive that way. the employees are relatively well-educated and do their best to help the fish recover. I bought my CBS from them, and hes been doing great.

hope they both pull through.... just how bad is the ich on the tang?

I think enough has been said about the stores, so can we now please keep the thread concentrated on the fish themselves and leave the stores out from here on in. All further store comments will be removed as i believe enough has been said and mentioned.

Thanks

Niko

Oh no! I keep a separate net for the QT for just this reason. Very glad to hear the hippo is hanging in there but so sorry to hear about the display.

I know.. lol I just wasn't thinking.. I was too busy running around setting everything up..

Ah well, it happens, I'm not too worried since my clowns are waaay to nasty to let a little white dot get the best of them :)

Just be careful though, I'd hate to see you cure the hippo and then put it in the display only to have it get ich again.

Ohh ya I already had that fight with myself. lol

But if I'd want to keep him, It would mean I would end up buying a bigger tank (not that it would be a bad thing heh) recycle, buy alot more LR, and and I'm not sure I'm up for that now..

I'm just basically taking it one day at a time..

But the good news is that he is eating, well at least nibbiling at the nori I put in there, and i've been sprinkling a little flake food in there.. so I take that as a good sign.

Though the amount of ich on him hasn't gone down, so I'm starting to look at the chemical route to help it along a little.. Hopefully he's gotten a little stronger to stand the stuff..
