DIY Marineland H.O.T spray bar

ditto that,.. i have a few also,..sizes and parts and measurements it looks like your tanks is a 46 bow? if so i also have one of those,..

Nice job. More info on painting please.

Good job man.

Here's how I painted my parts, first you should sand down the pvc parts pretty good (I know they say just enough to knock off the glossy finish, but imo it's not enough, paint will eventually chip away). Then apply a few (3-4 would be better) very light coats (don't worry if the white pvc is still visible with the first couple coats, just apply more once the coats are dry) of klyron fusion spray paint, letting the paint dry to touch in between the coats. Glopping all the paint in one go will not only result in paint runs, but will also bubble and chip away eventually.

Well the parts are

1. Two 3/4 cpvc caps 56cents
2. One 3/4 cpvc tee 38cents
3. and some 3/4 cpvc pipe (under 1.00 for 10ft)
4. 1/4 drill bit or any size you want
5. (optional) I bought a double barb elbow in the sprinkler line section, 10 for 1.25 or somen.

didn't glue any of it. You can, just won't be able to adjust it so get it right. If you're worried about the size take the outtake with you to homedepot and try it in a tee. This spraybar fits on the H.O.T. outake. Whether or not it fits on anything else I'm not sure so don't go trying it. I will be making one for my eheim 2215s when they come in. I bought different pipe, elbows, everything for that.

Measure the pipes out to whatever size you want stick the tee on the output and capt the ends. done =). I could of stuck the Tee in the center and made both ends the same length but wanted to mess with the sizing. In the future I'll probably put the tee in the center to have equal pressure. I find this works better then a hookup at 1 end, whether or not it matters I'm not sure....

Anyhow I just laid it on some newspaper and sprayed it with kylon plastic black paint. I think it was actually outdoor plastic paint, but it doesn't matter. Spray let dry, turn spray let dry, touchup let dry. No sanding or anything even though I'm sure it would look good like that too. 1 coat.

Tips: wd40 will help you get the sticker residue off the elbows, caps, whatever you're using. Buy a 10ft stick and just ask them to cut it in pieces alot cheaper then buying quarter sticks or etc.

Spray bar

Just got done assembling and spraying it yesterday. I decided to put a port for my co2 line in it also. I tested it on my 55 before painting. None of the pieces are glued together. They fit very tight together even to the point I almost thought it was stuck on. Anyhow it slide on the end of the hot output also so no adapter needed there either.

Hi there
I am also planning to do something like your project for spray bar....but I am confused...if you look at your 5th picture you will see....out flow tube with big hole and in your 6th picture.....the outflow hole in gone.....I wonder what that might be? Is it the back side of spary bar which you will hook up with filter?

GREAT IDEA !! THANXS for parts list :) I already have most of that here .. lol I am a collecter of DIY project ideas... It does take up way too much space in my home, I NEED A garage !!! lol , ~ anyway GREAT JOB !! I am going to do this tonight ! but as you mentioned I am going to hook it up in the middle , And I will use sandpaper before I krylon paint it, I will have to try my very best to add light layers' As I have had a tendency to try to get it done in one coat ... doesent work very well, with runs & chips.. So Off to Lowes to get the few parts I am missing (like the Tee) ~~ *( I wont be adding in the co2 part, so this should be easy . )

I am also wondering how easy it will be to lower my intake bar. I think its a diff size, but I will want to try that as well . I have my Hot magnum as a back up filter in my 75 gallon, So I really would want it deeper, and just enough so if I wanted to put it in the 55 or 29 gallon tanks, it would still work . :) ~ thanxs for the inspriation !!

(ps) nice camrea you have there too :)

thanks! I've made other stuff that I never posted and thought was weird lol. If you make one I'd either make the bar longer or the holes a size bigger. The hot really put out some pressure on the spraybar I made. So I just made the holes bigger. GL!

How long is your bar ?? and yeah I will make sure I drill the holes out big enough, I am thinking 3 or 4 on each end ?? I dont want it to cover the whole tank, but a good portion of the middle . I also am waiting on a canister filter for this tank, right now its just this, and a 60 HOB on the tank , its not overloaded with fish , and I do weekly 50% W/C with my python *( could NOT live without ) Esp in my APT !! Buckets suck !! lol ~~ thanxs I may ask you some questions if I run into any snags, i am rescaping my 10 planted co2 tank right now :) ~~ Will work on this after that ..... thanks for the xtra input .
