DIY plastic sump (wet-dry)?

i would just get a rubbermade storage bin and use they are taller than the storage box and you will need the extra height for your sump to hold water in case of a electric failure so when the tank drains down into the sump you wont flood your floors. the holes you drilled in your drawers look fine you dont want the water to stand you want it to filter and drip out. if you need more flow you can always make the holes larger.

Got a bin today, it just fits my drawers, and it won't fit the pump so I'm thinking of proping the drawers up on 2 cinderblocks- you can see them in the picture, so the pump can fit.

It seems sturdy and it won't collapse from the blocks and the blocks don't restrict its flow- hope it seems OK.

Thats really tall

Its not going under the tank is it?

No, its just going to be beside the tank. As long as the intake is lower than the overflow box it's OK right? Its around 1/4 the way up the tank but the overflow box will still be taller.

Thanks!

sump tub

yeah as long as the overflow box drain is higher then the sump your ok. here is the type of storage bins i use. and yeah you can sit it on the bricks i do that also.

this kit includes over flow box, pump and return spout all you need to pick up at home depot is your vinyl tubing. and if the flow is too much you can pick up a ball valve at home depot and install it in the RETURN tubing and adjust the flow from the pump.

you wont get the full flow rate from this pump because you will lose some flow depending on how far your sump is below the aquarium and how far the pump has to push the water UP to the top of the tank that is called head height so you have to buy a pump a little larger to get the flow you want to make up for that difference but i think you would like this combo kit.
Rodincali thanks for the tip on this kit as I decided to get one as well and it arrived today, the sellers fast. The photos on the auction advertisement don't do it justice as the skimmer and overflow box are much better made then expected and the skimmer box adjustment hangers are far better then adjustment screws normally used.. This is for my 160 tank which Im not ready to start work, so its going in storage until I find a good place for it.

:) i have bought many of the larger kits with the 4000 pump and several for friends no one has a complaint and yea he ships fast and is great to deal with. its handy to get everything but the tubing in a kit. i keep telling him to offer tubing in the kits so i dont have to go to home depot and leave with more then tubing id save money.

it is a very easy simple wet dry filter to build and works great!

Overflow box arrived today! Have a Lot of picks of it, and I agree with CWO4GUNNER:

A LOT (I know) one pic just shows some goodies that come with the pump, and I'm somewhat mystified about the Venturi pump, it seems neat but I'm not going to use it, I just wonder how well it really works.

I'm going to go out tomorrow to finish getting supplies for the filter, and I hope to be done by Thursday or Friday. Also, do you think that the bin I have is OK, it was the only bin at a number of stores that actually fit my cabinets, and it seems tall enough (14"). And I'm glad this tread is useful to others too! It's a pretty easy project, and It seems like it's going to work out great. Pics always make things easier, Thanks to everyone!
