Missing link is another misnomer. Evolution is not a series of begats, it's like a web. And no, misidentification does not happen in this way. If you're working with a tooth- of course it's possible- and scientists are the first to acknowledge when taht sort of mistake is made. But when we are talking about mistaking Homo Ergaster or Home Habilis for a malformed Homo sapiens sapiens- no, that would be like mistaking the skull of a donkey for the skull of a horse or mistaking a cow for a giraffe. The differences are just too great. And I don't believe that saying you can't prove evolution right with science is accurate either- we can understand the mechanism and why it happens, but we cannot test the hypothesis in a lab because the time frame needed to do so is immense. That is the only reason that evolution is referred to as a theory. It's a technicality imposed by the standards scientists uphold.
hmm. so mistaking homo ergaster skull for a homo sapiens skull is not like mistaking a pigs tooth for a humans tooth? actually it's much similar except that the skulls are very old and nothing nowdays has those skulls. nowdays there are pigs and humans. I think it would be esier to make a mistake with the skulls, because they don't have a living example.

So do you mean to imply we have uncovered all the secrets and understand the full meaning of every verse in the Bible? Do you believe those scholars to be infallible? It is essentially a given that we do not understand everything and have mistaken some things; we should be open to determing what those things might be so that we can better our understanding of our own religion.
no I am not saying the Bible scholars are infallable. and I know we don't know everything about every verse in the Bible. but we do know enough about the culture, language styles and forms of writing in the hebrew and Greek language to see wether it is literal or not.

Psalms 92 "He has made the world firm, not to be moved"

Psalms 103: "You fixed the earth upon its foundation, not to be moved forever"

Joshua 10:13- "And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. ... So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day."

Ecclesiastes 1:5- "The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose."

This was the basis for his trouble. In addition to Galileo being an arrogant jerk, even though he was right.

I am not a Bible scholar so don't hold my oppinions against other Christians, because I might not be right.

Psalm 103: "You fixed the earth upon its foundation, not to be moved forever"
does that mean that the earth cannot move through space? or that it won't explode and everyone dies?

Joshua 10:13- "And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. ... So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
"Ecclesiastes 1:5- "The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose."
-do we not say that the sun rises in the east? and sets in the west? do we actually mean that the sun is going around the earth? are we wrong every time we say, look at that beautiful sunset?

We know an awful lot about our own modern language, and it can be awfully difficult sometimes to figure out the meaning behind people's words (though some women are sure they've got it figured out ;) ). I don't think we understand things half as well as we think we do.

Oh well. We'll just have to agree to disagree. That's usually how these things end, isn't it?

Oh how "prowd" we are ....

It's OK to substitute "prowd" for "dumb"..

To call one'self made of "junk" is really -- putting yourself 'down'..

I am 'better' than "junk" -- and my DNA will prove that, as well as it has been shown - the world is "round"..

...

There is no "junk DNA"..

sorry ash. I am loosing myself too. why are we talking about evolution on this thread anyways? we should start our own! lol
I'll try to put it in different words. I think it would be easier for scientists to make a mistake about identifying old skulls than to make a mistake about identifying a pigs tooth, sinse there are still pigs.
it doesn't really matter anyways that there are these skulls. so... there are some skulls that are really old and belong to a creature we don't know of yet. as I (think) I said before, animals have been going extinct ever sinse they were on earth, so finding strange skulls shouldn't arouse too much exitment, especially if there are only about 1 of each skull. there are more of some, but other skulls are just individuals.

lol, why would we want to believe in evolution anyways, it's degrading!

but Hebrew and Greek are still languages that are being used and are very well documented and organized. believe me, I am learning Greek right now and there can be many different meanings of a word based on just the ending.

yes that usually is the way it goes. I can't take everybody on by myself either! I'm just a teen! :help:
anyways. I don't think we can say more than has been said in larger much more confusing debates, so I am ready to stop. anyone else?
peace 2 all.
