Do you name your fish?

Yes indeed ..I have names for all of them.Because if they are going to be apart of my family they need a name .Sometimes it is hard to keep them all straight but I eventually get right ..

Like many others- the ones that stand out.

L75 plec = Bibiana (although we call her/him bibi, especially lately as i am suspicious that 'she' is a 'he')

L264 = Habib(ah) (again.. thought it was a guy, but new suspicions of being a female.)

My b/f gets all confused when the fish "change genders" as he puts it.

and finally the Betta = Jessupha

:-D

I named my 2 Bettas- Napoleon and Blue. I named my 2 Golden Apple Snails - Mr.Snail and Tiny. I also named a very tiny baby molly I found in a tank at work and brought home- PeeWee (even though hes huge now). Those are the only fish/inverts who have names... the rest remain nameless haha.

I've had names for almost all my fish....courtesy of my girlfriends 5yo daughter. But, as said before, its hard to keep up on the names. Especially with a 5 yo naming them. She either forgets the name and changes it the next day or it's named something so crazy like...chocolate star girl, that ya just cant remember it.

I've found that it helps to have a name on certain fish if they get sick. Like, I can call home and say....how's "Blue bird" (our blue male betta) doing?

I typically don't name fish....it's just a tool for differentiating them for communication purposes......as boring as that sounds. :)

Erin thats good I have a nepolian also. yep of course I name my fish they are my life outside work family and friends. I have:
Rainbow Guarmis- Grumpy (causr he always has a grumpt look to him)
Pink kissing guarmis- Pinky (self explanitory)
Leporinus Fasciatus x2- Mig & Tig (fast like a mig fighter plane and striped like a tiger)
Pot Belly Mollie- Mr. Wrinkles ( had a dalmation named wrinkles and they both are spoted
clown Loaches x2- Bozo and IT (self explanitory)

Mig is AKA Nepolian as he/she is the most dominant of my tank thats where AKA comes in. LOL :) he/she was the smallest but most aggresive at one point thats why it got 2 names but Mig & tig 4 the most part.

I name a number of my fish, but mainly the ones that stick out and last the longest.

Chocolate Cichlids: Giant and Dwarf
Common Pleco's: Cozzi and Stealth Bomber
Eeltail Catfish: Whiskers
Red-Tail Black Shark: Boss
Red-Fin Black Shark: Robert/Bob
Juvenile Male Krib: Jay

Angelfish: Angel & Maple
Steel Blue VT Male Betta: Steel
Red VT Male Betta: Red Devil
VT Female Bettas (sisters): Polly & Tempest
Salmon Faced Marble VT Male Bettas: Kyrian & Azura
Red CT Female Betta: Ruby
Blue/Red CT Female Betta: Duchess
Cambodian Female Betta: Pearl
Deformed VT Males: Hutch & Kitchen

The Chocolate Cichlids, Giant and Dwarf are exactly what their names imply. One of them grew massive, the other is still only tiny.

What did you name your rainbow shark?

When we had goldfish, we named the biggest one "Big Daddy." More recently, my sister named her betta "Sushi." Recently, I had a betta but it passed away before I got the chance to name it. Would have been something like "chili pepper" or "firecracker" in Japanese.

Just realized the perfect names for my fish. I have 4 white skirt tetras and all of them have been artificially colored :(

But some good can come of this bad. They happen to be colored on their heads (almost like headbands) and they have the colors of the ninja turtles sooo Donatello, Michael Angelo, Raphael, Leonardo are my tetras now and My rainbow shark will be shredder.

:D?
