Eco Bio Blocks.... test begins

Since July. http://maqo.org/post/2008/08/Review-HI-Q-Zero-Water-Change-System.aspx the guys at maqo.org did a review of this thing as well. Also it has this stuff called bio magic and vita magic that replenish the evaporated water. I actually considered using the eco bio block because i am not able to do water changes easily (my tanks in a office) but i ran into this thing online. Now im actually starting a planted tank (never new these existed befor i got into the hobbie) but ill save that for another thread.

The other day, I cracked the filter in my SE Asian tank for the first time since placing the broken up block in the filter (in the bottom FX5 tray with Fulval Prefilter). It looked almost identical in appearance at time of install... no unusual growth or discoloration. I'm sue it also provides a nice surface for the nitrosamona.

Now several weeks in, the tanks continue to look clear and the fish are really showing some beautiful changes in coloration. I recently added a 6 member school of green tiger barbs to the SE Asian tank. They arrived with some vibrabt coloration and I'm curious to see if they will also undergo any change in the coming weeks.

sweet, good luck to yas

We are now at approx. the 3 week mark since placing the blocks inside the tanks. You'll recall that the manufacturer states that up to 4-6 weeks may be required, though some see results in just a few days. General thoughts as follows:

SE Asia: I have never seen the specimens in this tank so vibrant in coloration/health. The 5 gold gourami have all taken on black vertical banding with white ID at the fin tips. The 3 reticulated loaches have taken on a golden shine to their scaling; for a while I was concerned it was 'gold dust disease' until flashlight inspection revealed that the coloration was actually within their scaling bed; truly beautiful! The old-man, stunted ID shark (who grew up in poor conditions) is growing (!) and more incredibly, his front whiskers are growing back in. They are now ~1 inch long.... in 9 years he has never been seen with anything but short whiskers that lasted more than a week. This is simply unheard of. The 6 new green tiger barbs have been in the tank ~1 week and are similarly showing great color progression.

Lake Tang: The bichir has similarly shown a deepening of rostral coloration. After being a 'grey fish' for nearly a decade, he now seems to have some interesting coloration patterns. The juvenile comps continue to grow and have ~doubled in size from arrival. For such a slow growing species, I've been impressed with what I've seen. They are being very well fed and I'm trying to get them to take more veggie flake. They are supposed to be Gold Heads, but at the moment the dominant coloration pattern is vertical banding of muted brown with white fin speckling.

I do not know what has brought these changes on but the speculation can continue.... coincidence? Grass bacillus? Natural tank maturation?

Yes, I'm now posting at scheduled intervals. Wre're nearing the 'return' mark for the products if not satisfied and I have no itention of using it. Whatever is happening in both of my tanks is great to see.... I'll be posting again in the coming weeks but for now, its the same old healthy appetite and intense coloration. The new tiger barbs in the tank went from drab to brilliant in less than a week, but that can easily be explained by normal tank acclimation. The other specimens color up however is less easily dismissed as simple tank matiuration.

I'm a newbie, but I agree you should wait longer to make judgment to be fair.
I looked at the site and they never mentioned EcoBio-Block will intensify the color of the fish. It' says they'll improve the water quality.
