empty 55 gal -water question...

I have white top haras which are one of the many cynotilapia species. They are great! I like them the most of the afras since the females are bluish and not brown like many other afras. I keep mine in a 55 gallon with OB zebras and yellow tailed Acei.

Cool my fave Afra is the Afra Cobue really nice colors.. I second the small colony of Syno Multipunctatus about 5 would be nice and with Mbuna you may even see baby Syno's..

As for Syno catfishes, another great option in addition to S. multipunctatus is S. petricola. Very similar but a little bit smaller than the first one.

thanks fo the input! those are some nice looking cats, i'll look into them as well. Also thanks for the info on the labs, i'll just choose one species. BTW yesterday someone gave me a 55gal tanks and stand, so the africans will be coming sooner that expected! I just need to cycle first!

BTW I also found out that our well fluctuates, and every now and then something in it kils the fish( i have a goldfish tank with just the well water, and the water is clean and yet something's killing the fish, and it happens right after a water change, but it's not consistent) so i will still have to use the r/o water, just add minerals afterward-bummer huh :(

How often do you do water changes? What volume? Do you match temp? Is anyone in the house sick? Do you know how the pH, and gh of your well compare to that of the tank?

water changes are weekly, 20-30% each time. I match the temp and the ph from the well matches that of the tank @ 7.6 i'm not sure about the gh tho i know its real hard but i don't remember just how hard :)

oh. and nobody's sick round here.

i dunno, it doesnt sound like it's the bacteria now, i'm worried it might be chemicals of some sort, we live in a farming community and alot of the wells around here have that problem. The folks who take care of ours claim it's fine, but they only have a peroxide-injection system on the well and that only treats bacteria not chemicals.

Come to think of it, could it be the peroxide??
