Feeder fish, safe for non-fish?!?

I'd be inclined to ask this question on a dog forum or, better yet, at your vet office.

It is perhaps worth mentioning that any dog that is allowed outside is going to eat all kinds of questionable stuff, like road kill. Dogs have pretty tough digestive systems. Also, it seems unlikely that the fat content of one small feeder fish now and then is going to have much of an effect on the dog's health. Just my two cents.

Yes, I agree with you.

I agree, I'm just saying that's there is probably a better alternative than feeding your dog fish directly.

If you want to feed your dog fish, go to the meat department at your grocery store and get some there. Don't give your dog diseased, dying, sick, dead aquarium fish.

Just to show that opinions vary on the subject, here are some links in support of feeding fish:

I'm not trying to be argumentative, nor am I necessarily in favor of feeding fish to dogs. I'm just trying to point out that there are a lot of different views on the subject and the OP would probably be best of to ask the dog's veterinarian.

If you do decide to feed fish, I would recommend keeping a tank of small livebearers (like non-fancy guppies) rather than buying "feeders" from the pet store. That way you could quarantine them and treat for parasites and such just as you would any other aquarium fish.

EDIT: The second link did not work because it contains a synonym for "cat" which got filtered out as dirty language. I'll try again: http://to.ly/2Tgp

I would seriously recommend not feeding dead tank fish or feeder fish to your dog! The fish may have any kind of illness, virus, bacteria that could make your dog sick. If he likes "seafood" so much, you could give him tuna or sardines or anything other than dead or feeder fish.
