So, the day has finally come! My 40 gal is set up and just needs to cycle and clear out for a few hours (overnight) so yay! Here's the info and story of my building of the tank :)

Equipment:
  • 1XMarineland Penguin Biowheel 350
  • 2XMarineland Penguin Biowheel 200
  • 1XHeater
  • 1XUnderwater Pump/Powerhead
  • 1XLight
  • Sand, Gravel, and small river rocks substrate
  • Large pieces of driftwood, soon to have smaller pieces as well
  • Fake plants: 4
  • Terra Cotta Pot
  • Other Pot
  • Dirt (forgot it was in the other pot)
  • Glass Panels (from window, hold up light)
Stocking:
  • 3XFemale Mollies
  • 2XBolvarian Rams
  • 6XBronze Corys
  • 5XGlass/Ghost Cats
  • 5XPreacox Rainbowfish
  • 12XNeon Tetra
  • 1XBristlenose Pleco
  • 4XFreshwater Hermits (currently brackish, gonna see if they can do full freshwater, worth a shot)
  • 2XSnails (Brackish, too be fresh if they can)
  • 2XMuscles (did fine in brackish, may as well test fresh)
  • 2XMystery Snails
So that's the info about the tank, lets try some pics and another video!

Above is the tank before it was filled or moved or anything, sitting in my living room waiting to be used.

^^^Here is the tank partially filled, as you can see there is a large amount of Driftwood for the pleco to nom on so we should be good. Will also look very nice when finished :)

^^^Same tank, from above. Nice driftwood, if I say so myself :D
DSCF0589.JPG
Some of the fake plants, cause real ones will never make it with the dim lighting I have (not that I won't try them, I have plenty to spare)
DSCF0598.JPG
^^^The doomsday eletrical system. Luckilly, it's plugged into a place where a drier or electric washingamchine would go (via the extension cord) so there should be no electrical issues besides expeses.
DSCF0590.JPG
^^^The empty filters. What a mess to untangle those it was! Man... never again lol.
DSCF0586.JPG
^^^All the future ornaments and smaller driftwoods.
DSCF0593.JPG
^^^Glass panes, now cleaned, used to support light fixture. Now cleaned meaning i cleaned them after this pic was taken.
DSCF0596.JPG
^^^The muddy 40gal. I put a second pot in it, forgetting that pot still has dirt in it, and got brown water as a reward... ah well, it'll clear out by tomorrow, then I just have to vacuum up the settled dirt dust.
DSCF0603.JPG
^^^The old brackish 30gal tall. Probably never gonna be used again... but maybe I'll need it someday...
DSCF0583.JPG
^^^The future first inhabitants, all brackish (barely) creatures, but will be freshwater soon enough. Experiment, worth a shot, as I can't have the brackish tank and the 40gal togther, so says mom. Ah well... if need be I can re-adjust them for full salt and put them there, but I'm hopeful they can live in fresh. :) Just some snails, hermits, and a few tiny shrimps (brine shrimp tiny)

^^^The video, which is much better then my original video of the 20gal lol.

Please forgive for crappy quality pics, the camera isn't as good as I thought it would be... oh well. Will update thread over time, hope you enjoy!

looks good, look for a friend request on youtube, itll be me!

cool :)

lol, just though something up: how on earth am I going to do a 50% WC on this behemoth??? I could rig up a hose to the sink and another to the sub-pump... yea, that would work, I think. Meh, worth a shot. Any other ideas will be, of course, very welcome. Buckets are the exception, urg, 20gal in buckets, that at least 15 trips to the sink and 15 back with a full bucket... so long arms, I'll miss you... :)

well, at least its short and on the ground, 37 gals are tall, and im short, and its on a tall stand so i need to stand on a stool and roll up my sleeves to get my hand in, and my clothes get wet when i touch the bottom. biggest water change ive ever done on mine 37 gal was a 40.

lol, tanks being short and on the ground have problems too. Siphones don't work as well on such a tank, so I would have to work around that somehow... maybe use the underwater pump to pump water into a bucket? I'll think of somwething. It's 1 am here, so good night to you!

midnight here. what time zone does under a rock go by?:)

has the water cleared up yet?

has the water cleared up yet?

Yea, it has actually. The hermits and snails are in too, though the first hermit to test the waters doesn't look so good right now... I did salt the water enough to make it ever so slightly brackish, not enough to harm any full fresh fish but hopefully enough to help the hermits along. I won't be using SW for WC's so the tank will eventually become a full on FW tank (prob by next WC) I will upload pics of tank in next post!
