FF1's 40 Gallon Breeder Tank Build Thread

The bolivian rams will not breed with anything else in your tank. That's a lot of fish you're adding at once to a fairly new tank, I'd be keeping a close eye on the ammonia and nitrite.

I shall, I've been testing often and it's an overfiltered so I'm hopeful that I can manage it. And I transferred filter media from my 20 long to the 40gal filoters, so they should have plenty of bacteria by now. I will be keeping extra close tabs on the tank though.

So, if you've been gone for 4 hours and your drip acclimation has only filled the bucket up by a few millimeters (at most a cm) is it safe to leave the drip acclimation overnights (about 10-14 hours, I sleep a lot)?

It'll probably be ok. I'm a little late, but you should have got a bulldog pleco. They stay smaller, and small is best with your tank since it has a lot of fish.

I forgot to update this. So, of the fish added, only 1 died. I rushed their addition, should have staggared it, but I'm a dummy, always rushing things in... so the stock is as follows:

  • 14XNeon Tetras
  • 3XFemale Molly
  • 3XMolly Fry
  • 4XMystery Snail/Brigs
  • 1XBristlenose Pleco (Manages to hide, only seen him twice since adding)
  • 1XBolivian Ram (one died, I think I have the female left)
  • 6XBronze Cory
The tank still has it's driftwood and fake plants, and I got pics of all the fish I could find. They will come in the next post.

Stupid site.... makes the pics to big (which causes them to become blurry), doesn't get rid of those thumbnails.... urgs....

Just a quick time update. All the fish are fine, the GBRs and Bolivian Ram haven't tried to kill each other yet (Size definitly plays a part. they've met each oth
er). I think that the GBRs stick to the top of the tank (upper half) as I've never seen them in the bottom. The Bolivian doesn't go to far from the bottom,so they may have decided that those are the territories. The Corys are all fine, and none of the other stock has changed much. Here are some update pics:

So now, the pleco seemed to be doing fine... but I found it dead yesterday at about 10:30pm (after work). Pretty upset, it was fine that morning, saw it bustling around and sitting next to my filter... *sigh*. I doubt anyone will actually read this, but if you do and you think you know why the pleco passed away, it would be nice to know.

Update: Pleco the only recent loss, still working on why. Need to get some more stuff and better lighting.
