That "blood" shrimp is STUNNING when you see it in person compared to the cleaner. The cleaner is just more friendly and active.

But nice for a beginer tank, thats a big challange.

if you want to aquascape the tank better, take a hammer and chisel to the slab of Mount Everest in the tank and break it up into smaller pieces...Then you can aquascape how you want it, rather then be dictated by the beast..

Just a thought..

Cool tank! I've got one too, almost exactly. Started mine on 3-12-07. I have a blood shrimp in mine and it's fun to see him go nuts at feeding time. Other than that he hides. The cleaner shrimp in the other dt is always out and has a better personality IMO.

You're going to have fun with that thing. Water changes are pretty darn easy too.

Keep posting pics every once in a while so we can see the progress.

Yeah, i love sting rays. We got a blue spotted one and he always comes up to the side of the tank sticking his nose out of the water for us to pet him.

I vote against the hammer. I'd add some sand and a few little chunks of LR just to stabilize Mt. Everest. I'd also replace the sponge w/ LR rubble.

As for livestock, I think blood shrimps rock, but I'd start w/ hermits, maybe a sally lightfoot, some snails, then add fish after getting the "crew" established.

Personally, I'd try for extra LS, a pistol shrimp, watchman or other shrimp goby and maybe a firefish, dottyback or gramma. A flame hawk or filefish may be a good choice too, but may outgrow a 12g.

replace the sponge altogether? all the reading i've done i never heard anything about using rubble :) i don't know where to get it.
yes u should replace all bio media. its needs to be rinsed all the time and becomes a hassle. rock rubble is just small or broken up pieces of live rock. if u can buy it form a LFS then make ur own with a hammer...lol
