first tank ever. 12g mini-reef.

my clownfish jumped into the filter this morning during feeding time. i guess he woke up on the wrong side of the bed and was still a bit sleepy and i startled him. lol. this is what i had to do to get my net inside the filter chambers! he was in there 5 hours because i couldn't be late for work. after removing the submersible pump and bending my net up it only took about 5min to capture him.

yeah i wasn't going to name him Nemo -- too cliche, but I think he's earned the name! :) he was doing fine... although I left them for the weekend to visit the kiddos with one of those dissolving 3-day feeders. i didn't think the ingredients were that great... but my roommates all leave for the weekend too so it was my only option.

skimmer.

well... it doesn't fit in the filter as i thought it would. maybe it does in the 24gal aquapod. i'm pretty sure i read that it would. mostly due to the intake on the included pump. there is no overhead clearance back there anyway. i'd have to lower my water level, and i'm not sure if i can keep it that low anyway... i installed it in the front to check it out. i got micro-bubbles everywheres. i'd rather it was in the filter chamber and put some floss or something afterwards, ugh.

removed the strainer off the pump and squeezed it in the filter. water level prob a lil high due to no overhead room with the hood and the lights sitting right on top. if the foam doesn't mature over a few days, i could lower the tanks water level itself since i keep it at the "MAX" level. "MIN" is prob 2 inches lower... we'll see!

quite a few posts about the skimmer. sorry i'm excited. ha.
so i removed nearly a gallon of water. the foam stopped reaching into the cup. the cup was full of water too. i removed the top, with it still on. whoops bubbles everywheres. unplugged it. took it to the sink and went ahead and put airline tubing onto the extraction port or whatever... goes straight down into a empty 1gal drinking water jug which i had cut the top off of. ran the tube through the handle to secure it. added the water back until bubbles were making it back into the collection cup... i guess my water level was fine... no more water is in the cup. must not have been installed correctly before. water level is above the foam extraction port(nifty term i think i made it up). nothing coming out the tubing yet. time to wait. sigh. hardest part of any addition to the tank. waiting... and i got so much crap coming out the backend that it's become a choir to make it all line up with the cutouts when i close the hood. tape doesn't hold for too long. at least not electrical tape.:)

moved stuff & stuff

click for hi-res (1600x1200 405kB) to see all those micro-bubbles and the lovely colors of my shrimps and nemos. it's hard to tell (i see him everyday) but i think his colors are getting a bit more ... vivid.

check my blog to read about how i lost a heater and had to bust out the wet-vac... HEH

Looks great....:dance2:

looking good! you're inspiring me to dabble into the world of nano SW myself.. we will see.
