Frustrated Green !

oh and as far as the brita unit... but we have well water, but we have an additional system that takes out the iron and softens the water using a salt mixture ( very low salt readings) and then i use the brita. No chlorine, chloramine etc. my tap waters ph is 8.0 but my tank almost instantly raises it to a 8.2 (ish) probably because of the live rock.

i was told by many people that an algea bloom happens to most tank when there becoming established and for me to leave it allon, it'll go away by itself and then i'll have an established tank.... not working so far.

Yes when it is a new tank but if I read correctly you have had the system set up for a year. The rotifiers sound a bit sketchy...you added the shipping water and everything to the display? Oh the brita unit and other filtering systems...a filtering system for humans isn't going to take out everything that a marine tank needs to remove.

It is very possible that the water that contained the rotifiers contained something that is now causing the bloom. Rotifiers are normally fed phytoplankton. I personally have not heard of phyto bloom in a tank but phyto is nothing more than a algae. You should have bought yourself a brine shrimp net, or used a coffee filter and not added the water into your tank.

Like I said I can't be 100% sure but my guess is that this was part of the equation.

Unfortunately, your Brita filter isn't doing much of anything for the water you're putting in your reef tank. In fact, the amount of money you're probably spending on frequent replacement cartridges for it is likely costing you more money than a RO/DI unit would to purchase and maintain. Brita filters do not remove nitrates or phosphates from the water, so I would have your tank water tested somewhere else or with another test kit, because it's highly unlikely that the test results you're getting are accurate.

What brand of test kit are you using?

i didn't buy my brita because of my tank, I just happen to have a brita system. I've had a 300 gallon, and a 210 gallon saltwater tank running for over 6 years, i've done nothing different to this 75 gallon tank different than my others, so I don't think its the quality of water from my brita that is the problem. I'm assuming its something that I added to my tank that I have not added to my other tanks such as something on my live rock or my shipment from my rotifiers. Perhaps it was the lighting from before I changed my bulbs, but theres no way of knowing. Like I said, I just need to figure out how to get rid of it, as I said before, my reef isnt looking too good from the lack of light.

oh and this morning i brought a sample of water to petco, told him about my problem, he tested my water... he said its fine, told me to buy this cheap bottle thats suppose to get rid of cloudiness and green water. I bought it but havent used it yet.
