I couldn't sleep last night and got up to find my 5 clown loaches lined up vertically above the airstone of my monster tank. I only managed to get a pic of 4 of them in a row, but I think you get the idea.

What funny things do your CLs get up to?

oh thats the cutest pic ever!
Were they directly infront of the bubbles?

I myself dont have loaches but i just added an airstone today and am enjoying watching my platies play in it.

Those are not funny antics! :mad2: They are probably terrified as they have no place to hide! Clown loaches need hiding spots big enough to conceal their entire body. This is not normal clown loach behavior! :mad2: This is what they do when they are scared and have no place to hide.

Have to agree with HD3, when I clean my tank I take out the decor and my Feathefins hug the filter, heater or the glass wall because they hate being in the open.

Its kinda hard to tell, but that really dosent look like "Loach danceing" to me either. When mine dance in the bubble stream they ussually point up. I wish i could get a picture of mine doing the loach dance so you could see what i ment but so far no luck.

Do you have a couple spots for them to hide? they like there cavees as tight as they can so they can all wedge in together. PVC pipe and slate work great for this.

Yea, the picture near the bottom of the page is dead on for what my clowns do. I have an airstone in the substrate and the loaches like to dance around the colom of bubbles.

JardiniBoy, in the 3rd picture down. Is that a knife fish of some kind? Hard to tell because of the angle.

Buddy, you need to sit down and relax. Clown loaches do all sorts of crazy and funny things and I am not one bit surprised that these loached were lined up against the bubble wand.
He didnt even talk about hiding spots at all and you jumped down his throat! how do you know they have no place to hide?

Get your facts straight before you jump down someone's throat.

Oh and not to mention my friend... if you do know anything about clown loaches you will know that when they are stressed/scared they lose almost all their dark bands which turn white. From the picture it is evident that these loaches arent in that type of situation.

I am well aware that clown loaches do crazy things. IMO this is not crazy clown loach behavior because it can be attributed to fear. IME with clown loaches the behavior seen in the photo can almost always be attributed to lack of a places to hide. When clown loaches are scared and have have nowhere to hide they lie flat against the glass or next to an object that is similar to their size and shape. I know this because when I remove the hiding spots in my aquarium to clean it the clown loaches will hide next to my heater in a similar fashion. Also you can tell from the picture this is a bare bottom aquarium most likely with nothing in it.
