GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I am so *$#!#%@# angry right now!!

^^^^^^+ a million:

People are stupid, lazy, and greedy for the most part. regardless of which religion they do or don't ascribe to. Just think of it as a pathway to self-improvement instead of a "God-Approved" stamp. I'm not talking about religion, i'm talking about human nature...please don't ban me *flinch*

Fish are made of food, they are eating food.

It's a bizarre circumstance, but I don't get all the rage.

What makes me the most mad is that people are doing this in front of children. It's a horrible example to set, especially when people look up to you and see you as a role model. As a professor, I am sure you can relate.

Feeder goldfish are incredibly abused as it is, so the fact that they are being abused by humans directly via live swallowing, is not all that different to me from having a 15 year old punk feed them to his oscar (principles aside, the parasite issues and Thiaminase issues are very real ones).

I would say the great majority of people feed feeder goldfish for their own pleasure and sport. In my many years of forum experience, people don't usually want to stop feeding them even when they learn about the above issues.

BTW Fozzy, I am sorry you feel that way...sometimes I feel that way after the holiday retail season (being in retail) but not usually!

BTW, horses are made of food also, but I believe it's illegal to eat them in the U.S...not sure what other animals this law applies to, other than protected species, of course.

(Nicole please don't say this is a redneck activity.) It's an activity that occurs at fairs, colleges, bars, evidently churches and probably more places than we can imagine. Redneck, college kid, graduate, office parties, it happens. I do find it to be tasteless (no pun intended) for it to occur in a church setting as that is supposedly a sacred affair. I wouldn't eat a hamburger in front of someone that feels cows are sacred any more than I would swallow a goldfish in a church setting. It's all about the mindset. Greenpeace was considered (still are by some) to be wackos yelling save the whales! and here 30 years later people are actually beginning to listen. Change comes slow. Sometimes painfully slow. You just need to stand up for what you believe in and change the mindset, one person at a time if need be.

... Their deaths will be avenged when the guys that swallow them wind up with salmonella and other parasites from eating feeders... :P that's sad and disgusting!

LOL. That's what I was thinking. ;)

They should have this on an episode of 'House'.
'You did WHAT?! You really ARE an IDIOT.'

Good point. What makes this even more amazing is that no alcohol was involved, and these people researched it beforehand...not whether it was safe or not, mind you, but how to do it best so as not to end up with a scratchy throat. Un...be...lievable.

Now THAT would most likely be a redneck activity.

Yeah, they used to be more extreme too, I believe. I doubt they are tree spiking any longer.

Very true. If you ask me, feeder goldfish need to be banned just like in the UK. We make it illegal for stores to sell fish food in which the nutritional content of the food is not analyzed (making it very difficult for hobbyists to sell their own food online without fear of legal ramnifications) and found to be of acceptable standards, so why do we sell feeder goldfish, which are known to make fish sick (diseases) and are nutritionally unsound (Thiaminase)? If they were really meant to be sold as food (not playthings) why would they not be gutloaded? How many people gutload their feeder goldfish before offering them?

Why not sell Tilapia fingerlings? Much more nutritious as opposed to fatty goldfish, and they do not contain the vitamin blocking properties of goldfish.

Hmm, let's see, I wonder how many people would buy them.
