Goldfish laid eggs - with photos, etc.

Yes, they are growing ridiculously quickly. I'm thrilled they're doing so well. Hooray for mutt genetics!

I started them on Small Fry liquid food, then moved on to live baby brine shrimp. After that they started getting First Bites, and recently I've moved them up to ground up Omega One pellets. They just had their first taste of adult brine shrimp, but those are still a little large for their mouths.

As for Upstart, she's looking much better. I don't know if she spawned or what, but she has shrunk significantly. She's still fat, though. I'm keeping an eye on her. She's still eating like a pig and tearing up my careful decorating like usual, so that's a good sign.

Glad to hear you are seeing some positive progress in upstart nice babies too.:D

nice thread! i just read the whole thing. that bigger one really IS bigger than the others. i hope upstart is good.
i miss my comet, shubunkin and koi now:(
i had three in a 20 gallon. they were little, 3-3.5 inches and very comfortable for the time, but i knew they would get big and i didnt want to stunt them, so i bought them to a LFS. one was a comet, sole survivor from my first ever tank, and he was from walmart. i hope theyre all okay wherever they are now.

Do you have a pictures to update us on the fry? How is upstart doing?

I do actually, I was planning an update earlier today.

I have fantastic news!!! Little Sprocket, the largest baby, graduated to the big tank! (And the crowd goes wild!!   )

Hahahaha.... I am really excited about it though. He was scared out of his mind when I first plopped him in with the whales, but at this point he's starting to school with them a little and doesn't flip out when they come near.
I was worried he might be picked on or even eaten, because he is still mouth - sized for Upstart and Napoleon, but he's been doing just fine and the big guys don't seem to mind him at all.

He's darkened up a bunch since moving to the 60 gallon, and seems to have grown in just the three days he's been in there. He's big enough to eat the pellets they're getting, and I'm feeding soaked flakes as well to be sure he gets enough.

In the little tank, his three siblings are doing very well. Sparkplug has doubled in size since the last update. I think taking the biggest kid out of the tank helped - got those hormones out of the water and remove some food competition too. Bracket, the little guy that I found under the sponge filter, has recovered completely and is shiny and active now. He seems to have recovered vision in his left eye. Fender is the only fry I worry about. He hasn't grown, and so is only half his siblings' size. He spends most of his time sitting on the bottom, but feeds actively and seems otherwise happy. I hope he will start growing again soon.

Both the big tank and the nursery got new filters. I put my second Rena XP3 on the 60 gallon, and the 10 gallon got a ZooMed 501, the same little canister I'm running on my 5 gallon tank. It's such a fantastic filter I decided to use it for both tanks. Bought it cheap on eBay!

As far as Upstart, she is doing well. Still chubby, but eating like a big pig and acting normal. If it is a tumor, it doesn't seem to bother her much. Unless she gets larger I'm not going to worry too much. I'm very glad she's not eggbound though.

Well, enough chit chat. Here are some photos of Sprocket in the big tank.

Please pardon the scratches - I just shot these really quick without too much hassle or setup, and I didn't really clean the glass. Looking forward to that new tank... no scratches!

Yep, he's definitely getting older. Look at that moustache! :)

This shot gives you an idea of his size - that's Sprocket up there on the upper right. The others really do look like whales next to him. :D

He's a handsome little fellow. Yep, I'm a proud grandparent. Haha...

I did get a nice photo of Morris while I was at it though, thought I'd share.

Just read this entire thread, wanted to congratulate you! I miss my goldfish like crazy now. Had them for 10 years and a **** raccoon decides to have lunch ($*%$*%. They aren't even indigenous to my area!

Wow, those are nice looking goldfish :) He does look like he is next to whales haha. I hope my goldfish look as nice as yours when they get big too :)

most impressive goldfish story ive ever read, took me 2 days to take it all in and read the entire thread!

I really like sprocket, that is the most brilliant gold coloration ive seen i think ever on a goldfish. Your photos are also amazing, even with the scratched tank, I have a digital SLR fijifilm finepix and I still cant seem to shoot nearly as clean as alot of what i see on the forum here, does the black background help alot?

really amazing thread
