HI,I'm getting a 29 gallon tank and I was wondering...what's a good cichlid to start with..It's gonna be a comunity tank...so it has to be peacefull...are there any? thanks!

I have a Blue Ram in my community tank of yellow rainbows, bala, neons, phantoms, mollies, platies. He is a very peacful fish. They are fun to watch. It reminds me of a humming bird, except in the water. They make quick movements, but make dead stops. They don't gradually stop like most fish. I've heard kribs do well in community tanks to, but I don't have any experience with them. Both are dwarf cichlids.
A angel or two would do well in your 29. They are peacefull unless you happen to get a breeding pair who will tend to be more aggressive when spawning.
blue rams are great! just try to get some that have been breed in the states or europe. The ones from asia are very fragile and die very easily.
If you can find them, Honduran Red Points are great. They look similar in morphology to a convict, however mine are very mild mannered, and have simply amazing coloration. Mine are living with some tetras, and even with fry in the tank, they keep to themselves. I hear they also don't grow as large as a convict.

If you're not set on the 29g, consider a standard 30g. It's only one extra gallon, but has 6in of extra length. I went with the 29 because of budget restraints, and have regretted it ever since.

I've kept both the rams, and apistos in a 29g with angel fish (the dwarfs above are mainly bottom oritiented, and the angels learn to stay high). Just be careful about other bottom dwellers. Even these dwarfs are territorial, and some will not tolerate corie cats. Pick only one species, and do not get more than one male. Good Luck
