gourami still aggressive

I agree, but don't think for one minute this is a good practice. I would only suggest it for rift lake cichlids and fish that generally live in crowded populations. This is not the case in gouramis.

I feel like I am beating a dead horse here. Everytime you get advice, hurdledude, you seem to ignore most of it until you get the one single answer you were looking for in the first place. If you already know what you want to do, do it. If that means putting the betta back in, go right ahead and then see what happens, but don't blame anyone but yourself if it turns tragic.

For my real advice, here it is and please understand I feel pretty passionately about this because I think fish deserve to be treated better than most people treat them: Take back all of the gouramis and the betta (unless the betta is happy in one of your spare 5 gallon tanks) for store credit. Take back the ten gallon tank and whatever of your five gallons now sit empty and see if they'll buy them back. Otherwise, try and sell them in a garage sale or to friends. Save some money (Spring is coming, do chores, mow lawns, whatever it takes), buy a 20 gallon long aquarium and then, if you want to breed livebearers, go for it. Or, if you want a community tank put your betta in this 20g (once it has cycled) and then stock it with peaceful fish, not 4 more gouramis. I'm not really sorry if that is what you don't want to hear, either. Fish are living creatures. They are a responsibility. If you buy them, they are your responsibility and it is then your duty to do whatever is within your power to keep them in the best condition you can. Trolling around on message boards for the one answer you want to hear while ignoring the 20 answers you need to hear is not being responsible, it is being cruel to the animals you house.

Well said, something alot of the younger more ignorant posters needed to hear. I'm not going to sugar coat this, there have been alot of prima-donnas come onto this board lately ignoring excellent advice because they think they know what they're doing. That is the kind of post that should be stickied because it happens time and time again and Every time someone has to say something. This is not the first thread that hurdledude has acted this way in before either. Sure this is a form of public relations, but this forum is for the sharing of info and centers around the care of LIVE animals. If animals are not being properly cared for and people are not taking advice something has to be said.

Hurdledude, if you can't accept the facts and take the advice from the people whose lives are centered around fishkeeping and know tonnes more info than you know then you should just take all of your fish back because you obviously cannot handle the responsibility of caring for live animals.

Ya, it certainly is 'mature' of you guys to get upset and fight with someone over the internet. Definitely is setting a good example for some of the 'younger' posters.

:) I'm glad to know that you are very passionate about your fish keeping. I too think that fish deserve to be treated properly, just like any other animal. However this is a public message board. Regardless if you 'think' someone is being dumb...please be the 'adults' that you are, and treat that person with respect.

If he is just looking for that one answer he wants to see, then that is unfortunate for him, as he will keep running into problems. You told him what he needs to know.....now give it up!

If you wish to complain about how animals are treated (because I've seen fish treat FAR worse), write a letter to a government official or something. Being ignorant toward someone on a PUBLIC message board accomplishes nothing and is very annoying to read. It's counter-productive.

Some of you may have made your life revolve around fishkeeping. That's cool...whatever interests you, it's all good. But to take the initiative to become these 'fish police' is a bit much. Perhaps you need another hobby to soak up some of your extra time?

I have to agree with Harlock. And please cdawson, don't bash all youngins. I've taken all advice given to me and put it to work, and I care for all of my fish very much. Stereotyping never gets you anywhere :)

If I was not adult, please show me an example. I made a post to someone that solicited advice on a PUBLIC messageboard and consistantly ignored it in numerous threads. So, you may have made your life revolve around other people's posts. That's cool...whatever interests you, it's all good. But to take the initiative to become the 'post police' is a bit much. Perhaps youneed another hobby to soak up some of your extra time?

EDIT: When people ask for opinions... they tend to get them. Just because they're not yours doesn't make them any less "adult" or productive than your own. That's called aa straw man and it won't hold up.

Woh, I think I hit a nerve with you.
:)
This is starting to go back and forth...back and forth. I'm going to end it here. The positions are: I'm asking for you guys to treat others with respect, and you're telling me you can be rude to people whenever you want since it's part of your 'opinion'.

I never once said your advice was poor. Actually...if you read back, I am agreeing with you guys. The only thing I'm trying to get across is that there is no need to be rude to people who visit this message board. Abuse should not have to be tolerated. It's up to them wether they take your advice or not. If you feel that they aren't going to take your advice....then STOP giving them advice.

Simple.

if u guys read earlier yesterday in the thread im sry to anyone who has responded.... i apologised for just looking for an answer i though was right but i have changed and if i could go back in time i would definitely have taken your advice.... but just and update the gouramis have settled down and arent aggressive and seem to be happy (swimmin around peacefully)

Most excellent, hurdledude. Sorry if any of us came off as rude. I was trying my best not to be and simply stated the facts as I saw them. No need to apologize, just keeping the fish healthy an happy is what anyone on this messageboard wants for you. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Healthy fish in a setup the keeper enjoys means the keeper will do more for that setup meaning healthier fish meaning happier fish meaning the keeper enjoys them more meaning... ;)
