Guppy Tank

I checked the levels in my soon to be guppy tank ( I had been using 3 raspora hets to cycle it, and since they were fine i decided to go ahead and dive right in to go ahead and set up the tank for the guppies. I went with a simple ten gallon, aqua-clear filter, pre-set heater and all kinds of plants. I put 3 females and 3 males in. (I know the ratio for live-bearers should be 2 females per male, but i just forgot for a second when i was netting them) They are doing fine so far. All three of the females were pregnant when i got them (no surprise) and one of them looks like she's about ready to pop, So im gonna unanchor some of my plants and let them float to the top so they fry have a chance at life. I also just need to make my aquarium look prettier, it's kind of bland right now. More plants, and a background, me thinks.

...and yes, you're right, these things are only good at two things. but that's why we love them, right?

10 gallons
6 guppies
...soon to be over a hundred guppies.

does anyone know how many i can expect to live after mom and dad stop eatin' them?
out of 40-50 them mom releases, how many will make it to adult hood if i dont seperate them?

I would even go as far as saying 2 or 3 males and double the number for females. Before you know it, the fry will take over and you won't need to worry about the tabnk looking so empty. Also as dwayne says, a few cories at the bottom would work well too.

Guppies are how we got started with our tank a year ago. We no longer have them as I definitely need a hardier fish to survive me!! But I thought I would share my story - my son and I got our tank going and went out and got 4 guppies - probably not a good ratio, 2 male 2 female - we didn't know. Brought them home on a Saturday and Sunday morning we had 12 baby guppies in the tank! Imagine our suprise! Good luck with your guppies! They are certainly pretty.

Well, I started with 2 females and 1 male in a 20g. Within 5-6 months I had around 100 fish and I didn't know what to do with them.

Fry are too quick for discus and congo tetras. Even in the q-tank I have few fry and they're too quick to bosemani rainbows.

I am debating if I should few to my altum tank. Not sure how things will be in there.

Since then, gave 30 to my friend, 30 back to the lfs for some credit to buy the rainbows with. I still want to get rid of some as the 20g is overloaded.
