14 and no income is normal. for me tho it was different, my dad owned a landscaping business and i got paid under the table. he'd let me run around with a weed whacker and have all the fun i wanted.

and about findin a job, patience is key. iam almost 22 and i dont have a job right now lol. michigans economy is so screwed right now. although my lfs might have an opening when some kids their go back to college.
 
Well... if you cycle it properly, do your research, etc. I'd be willing to send you some shrimp and plants. I'll even split the cost of shipping with you. :)

Back in the day.... they didn't check age quite so carefully and I had a FT summer job at Jack in the Box at 13.
 
i got guppys, only five but their cool. one male has a female sized tail. dont know if its rare or not, but.............

my least killifish are breeding like crazy, but all i got is babies. i have a ten g but how could i ship it?

Actually it's not really hard - you just have to think outside the box so to speak. Cutting grass, dog washing, car washing, helping construction workers as a "gopher"/second pair of hands, working in a nursery (plants, not kids), cleaning swimming pools, etc. Look around the neighborhood and you'll see lots of things that folks either don't have the time to do, or flat out don't like to do - then offer your services. I know this may sound like corny advice, but seriously print out these two pages, look them over, and realize just how stinkin' rich you can be if you just do a few things different than your friends. The man I learned this incredible advice from says "Live like no one else for a while, so later you can LIVE LIKE NO ONE ELSE"! If you understand it, grasp it, and use that knowledge - you will be so far ahead of everyone you know! I only wish that I could rewind the clock to when I was your age, do some of these things, then instantly zap back to now and buy any dadgum house I want!

everybody giving you guppies, endlers, shrimp, lol I'd give you a free albino oscar bout 3"-4" but it would just eat all your other fish, let me know when your ready and if you want it although I can't guarantee it'll still be the same size. shipping we can work out. good luck with the summer job tho, i started working at 15 in my dads restaurant now im 2 months shy of 19 and im a personal banker for chase 50k salary and i just finished first year of college :D, consistency and confidence is key
 
lol well im 13 so i cant even get a job yet i still afford this hobby without mooching off people! lmao jking well i babysit, mow and any other odd jobs people come to me with pet watching sure lol...when i was 7 i picked up dog poo for 7 dollars a lawn! lol make up a random buissness cmon if i could get a job when i was 7 then you can get a job now
 
Have you tried freecycle? (or your local equivalent?). It's a place for people to get rid of stuff they don't want. (It's a yahoo group). Sometimes people who are fed up with fish maintenance get rid of tanks. It's worth a try. You may need your parents help for that--to get you signed up or something, not sure on age limits.

Also where do you live? I have a 20gallon tank I'm planning to freecycle. (long story, guy said it was a 29gal, got there, it wasn't but bought it anyway...wasn't asking much). It needs cleaning etc., but if you are looking for free stuff, you'll have to put in some elbow grease!
 
Local craigslist is a good option for free fish and tanks as well. When you get one that's just plain nasty (and you may - I got one once that took 15 hours to clean up!!) - then use distilled white vinegar - no worries about chlorine rinsing to avoid killing the fish.

WOW Chau - if you applied some of that great income you're making at your ripe young age to the principles in those pages above - can you imagine how many millions YOU'D have later!!!??? Great story - amazing to be where you're at for your age! I must say that I'm impressed.
 
yeah but now a days where can you find rates like that lol, I'm doing the 401k and IRA thought hopefully will equate to the same
