I let out Mr Bubble Eye.......Mrs Bubble Eye is SOOOO happy to see him....But I am still worried about him. He seems still in distress. He still wont eat. How long can they go without eating???I dont like how he just lays on the bottom when he is out of his house. He seems like he is trying to GULP??? Is is possible he still has a rock loddged inside somewhere??? when I look inside his mouth I dont see anything.........
he may just need more time to fully recover. with nitrates as high as they were he was probably a bit poisoned. it's also possible he's eating food off the bottom when you're not looking (a lot of my fish do that apparently... the food sinks and they eat it later on as opposed to going to the top at feeding time). If he's really not eating at all he might start looking a little hollow bellied, so if he isn't really looking like that yet then he might just not be eating much, but still eating something.

keep up the good work and be patient... he might just need more time to look as good as new ;)

Mr Bubble Eye ate today!!! :D He ate while in his house so we decided to let him out. He still seems weak but he is givin it his all. He will swim around a little at a time checkin out the new river and bubble wall then he will take breaks on the bottom. We fed again because it seems as tho they all have a increase in appitites. :D

However.....
I dont understand the water readings for today....

Ph 8.0 ??? What happened??
Ammonia .10-.15
NitrAte 20ish
NitrIte 0

Should I be double dosing on the Prime? What is up with the spike in the Ph??? What is the safest way to lower it?

You don't lower it. pH 8 is fine, especially for goldfish. The last thing you should do is monkey with the pH. A stable pH is far more important to fish than a particular pH.

Can you get some tap water, leave it out and test it for pH 24 hours later?

Most likely your tap water pH is really 8.0 and is buffered by the city. That happens a lot and unless it's really extreme (9ish), nothing to worry about.

The ammonia reading is probably because of the testing kit you are using and is most likely harmless ammonia ions. What type is it? AP?

Update: We have continued with water changes...
Ph 8.0
Ammonia .10-.15
NitrIte 0
NitrAte 15-20

Mr Bubble Eye seems to be recovering except for how he eats.

He will eat if the food is DIRECTLY in front of him. If he has to hunt for it he ends up going without then he becomes weak ang goes belly up....but if I put him in his house and feed him he will gobble up everything he sees.

IS IT POSSIBLE HE HAS SOME KIND OF BRAIN DAMMAGE FROM BEING IN SUCH BAD WATER???

When he is fed he swims around fine...tail is fanned out and up. I dont get it....He seems to have lost his ability to hunt for food. :?:

This morning I came down stairs and Mr Bubble Eye had gotten himself STUCK in the filter by his BUBBLE!!! His bubble had gotten sucked into the slit in the filter intake.....This has NEVER happened before. His bubble didnt pop however it is red and swollen..the white of his eye has blood in it as well too. I put him in his little house to watch him for awhile. He will still eat. But now he is injured. What should I be doing for him??? Any Ideas???

Water changes have continued and new readings are:
Ammona .10-.15
PH 8.0
NitrAtes 10
NitrItes 0

Oh, poor thing!

Please leave him in his house until he is fully recovered an eating on his own. Don't let him out until he is 100%.

Keep his water clean and fresh and his eye will be fine.

Sounds like Mr. Bubble Eye is having a run of bad luck. Maybe you should just get down on your knees and pray for this fish cause something is out to get him. :duh: You might want to put a peice of pantyhose over the intake so that doesnt happen again.
