Is there an Aquariums Anonymous group I can join. My desktop tank in my office has consumed me. I can't get anything done. When I go home I'm on the Internet constantly looking up new tanks for my house, different plants and fish. It is consuming my life. Any advice?

AC is somewhat like an AA, but theres no advice here for stopping i'll tell you that. Pics of that desktop tank would be great, whats in it?

I really want a tank for here at work but I'm also afraid it would take up too much of my time and I wouldn't get any work done, I'm already on here way too much!

I brought my 10g to work. Makes for a nice afternoon break.......watching the fish, cleaning, water changes, etc.

I am somewhat that way with my daylilies. Thers are hundreds of varieties, doubles, miniatures, ect. It can really consume alot of time, and money. And while I'm consumed with my flowers, the kids are STILL waiting to see grandma LOL

I just have to remind myself sometimes that it is JUST a hobby. And when it gets to the point of controlling my time ect and I get all tied up in it and crabby about it, I need to back off. It is supposed to be FUN not stressful. If its not FUN, why do it?

It sounds like you have A.A.D. - Aquarium Acquisition Disorder. This is usually accompanied by F.A.D., or Fish Acquisition Disorder.

The two go hand in hand, and in fact either one can cause an acute exacerbation of the other.

There is currently no known cure, and there actually doesn't seem to be anybody looking for one since most of those afflicted with the disorders seem to resist treatment. I know a guy once who had a raging case of FAD/AAD and it was put into remission for a while by a dose of "Marriage". But it seems that even in their dormant state, both are contagious, and his new wife soon succumbed to the disorders as well.

Fighting the symptoms is not recommended as this is a very persistent condition. Fighting it will only cause stress, which could lead to a case of ich if accompanied by another factor such as a rapid temperature drop. Oh wait, scratch that (pun intended) - that's fish that get that, not fish-keepers.

Bottom line : Enjoy it!
