Hi everyone,

I started a thread a few days ago that touched on this but I decided to start its own thread so I could get as many opinions as possible.

I will soon have a 28 gallon FW tank. I would like advice on how to stock the tank. I like the idea of having 2 different schools of fish, a centerpiece fish, and a few algae eaters (I like the look of the khuli loach). I would love nice looking active fish of course. What are you ideas? :dive2:

Are you looking for very peaceful or semi aggresive?

You should do a Dwarf Gourami as your centerpiece fish with a school of Bleeding Heart Tetras and some Corys as your clean-up crew.

Since I am a beginner, I would assume peaceful would be the best bet. I would like an interesting and colorful tank with lots of activity if possible. In my other post, it was suggested that a school of 7 rasboras and 7 tetras, and a dwarf guarami as a centerpiece would be good. I like this idea but want to suggestions from all of you experts out there, maybe some specific varieties. Thanks again and keep the suggestions coming!

Here is my suggestion. FYI kuhli loaches are not algae eaters. ;)

1 Dwarf gourami
7 zebra danios
3 oto cats

I have a couple of marble hatchetfish that are interesting to look at. They are known as top dwellers, but in my tank, they also swim at mid level a fair bit.

I'm not sure if your loaches will get on with the following but here's a wonderful peaceful community

1 Dwarf Gourami
12 neon tetra
8 Harlequin Rasbora
4 Cory (same species)

If you wanted semi aggresive you could get

an Angel Fish
and something else?
No neons though, I think it's important at the start to establish if you want an angel fish or not as it limits what else can go in your tank as do Neons actually because if you get a bigger tank and you still have neons it limits the bigger fish you can get...
