Hi, I just need some advice.

Sumthin fishy, I am not saying that 1 otto, 1 cory, and 3 tetra is too much of a bioload. If this amount was more than doubled as she is considering, I do think that it would be too much of a bioload.

These things can be a matter of opinion. I just especially believe that a person's first tank should be carefuly stocked because accidents and mistakes are likey to happen in the first few months. Nobody is perfect. The fewer fish that are in the tank, the fewer casualties if disaster does strike. With fewer fish, it is much easier to keep up with water changes. I'm not trying to argue, I don't have a problem with somebody disagreeing. I'm just glad you are civilized about it! :)

Something fishy, feel free to critique anything I've said. In fact, I want people to. Thats how we can learn.

Every situation is different. I have found that stocking lightly has worked extremely well for me.

IMO, she should get rid of the pleco and the oto. After her tank has cycled Mariah should add two more cories, wait a couple of weeks and add three more bleeding hearts. That would put the 10g at 3 cories and six tetras. I don't think that would be overstocked at all, however, Mariah must do weekly waterchanges after her tank is finished cycling. Until it is cycled, the tank probably needs a waterchange at least every other day. Also, no fish should be added until the tank is finished cycling.
I agree with Larissa.

Oto probably won't survive cycling anyhow.

Also, ottos love a constant supply of fresh, soft algae and there wouldn't be enough in a 10 gallon tank to feed 3. I don't even think that my 29 gallon could feed 3. There is not much algae in my 10 gallon. Most ottos will not eat brown algae.

You may have already said this, but: What is your filtration? What foods do you feed the fish and how often?

You may not be doing perfect, but you are getting better ;)

Thanks. I've noticed there isn't much algae in the tank lately, so I've been putting algae wafers in there for them to eat. Besides that, I feed all my fish tropical fish flakes 3 times a day.
I have one filter in the tank (a Whisper filter) that is good for aquariums 5-15 gallons.

Be careful not to overfeed. This is a problem I still have to deal with.

thanks, but how often should i feed them? i've thought about feeding them only once or twice a day, but then i'm afraid they'll be hungry.

Well twice a day is usually okay. three time depending on how much you feed. Only feed them what they can eat in 30-120 seconds. Your fish will eat till they literally kill themselves they may scramble like they havn't eaten in a week but they don't need much food. Oh make sure you don't feed them for a day every once in a while as this will help clear their digestive system.

sure maybe 2platys or 2swordtails are what u can add but a sucker fish  no way. Your probley allrealy full. Soon your guppies will have babies and youll need them a new tank.
