High Court Ends Death Penalty for Youths

I am all for the death penalty, but what I don't like about it is when innocent people get killed that's why I'm againts it. Cause it happens more often than not.

So, innocent people get killed by the death penalty more often than they don't get killed by the death penalty? I'd love to see the proof of that.

Wow, most of the religious folks I know are all about the judgement... Final judgement. I think it's easier to rationalize a death penalty for someone who believes in a supreme benig who will render correct judgment on a person's soul despite the fact that the person tried and found guilty might have been incorrectly judged on earth. If the courts made a mistake, surely God won't, if you follow me.

Firstly, HappyChem - no, I am not catholic. I consider myself Christian; I believe in God, not that any of it should carry much weight at a fish forum.

Harlock - final judgment, if you believe in it, has nothing to do with human beings (in the living). Final judgment doesn't make it OK to judge in the living years... in fact, it makes it much more embarrassing when those who claim to attend church regularly (and believe in the after life) can turn a head to anybody they choose and judge them.

I do not attend church regularly. I do watch biblical shows, and would even if I was atheist... I like to know what is going on in other peoples minds, and why. Why am I mentioning this? Because we have people more at peace with themselves and more Christian-like, who do not even attend regular church services - for whatever reason. Just because you dip your hands in holy water does not give you a straight ticket to heaven.

What I say next might be worth very little, or it might hold a place with someone - I don't know, it would depend on who's reading this. But all I can think to say at this point is, we humans (especially Christians) need to start "talking the talk", rather than just 'walking the walk'.

PS: I do not doubt that God would spare those wrongly convicted of such horrible crimes as murder... I just question how he'd respond to the person or persons responsible for the execution of the so-called "murderer". ;)

Personally I think we should bring back public hangings....
Perhaps if some of these young murderers witnessed the results of their actions, they would think first. I'd like to see a public vote on it...

Just heard talk of one such young killer, that murdered a woman and dumped her 1 year old in with her grave. ..alive.
My opinion is this killer should not be allowed to 'enjoy life' behind bars.

But that is why the jury system and appeals are in place. As I said, I consider them a necessary part of it. I wasn't claiming anyone got a straight ticket to heaven, so I am confused at the entire point of that paragraph. Also, I won't claim to walk the walk or go into my church attendance and habits as really, it has no bering on this discussion. What I said is the rationale behind many of the people that you were surprised supporting capital punishment. More strawmen, is all I can say.. I've seen a lot of them in this thread.

Happychem - I know it wasn't, I was just pointing out how I classify myself, religiously speaking.

Harlock - I wasn't speaking about you, even if it was directed to you. I have no clue what you might consider a "godly person", or whom you deem appropriate for heaven. However, one can notice that many people seem to stand behind their religious beliefs when it comes to this subject, but nobody can speak for God (assuming you do believe), so it is pointless to insinuate "WWJD". One can, however, interpret the commandments pretty clearly.
